What did I miss? I hear they have a cat fight going on similar to The Playmaker & Keyshawn. Can someone drop some science on me?

Sounded like quite a special moment...and Phil Simms is a very laid back guy...although I have seen some great clips of him locking horns with Parcells on the sidelines.

OH and btw, it's always cool to see a dad stick up for his kid. Notice how quickly Young backed down.

I was going to say as a player there was nothing laid back about Simms.

Phil needs to shut up and stop the protective father nonsense. It's the same BS which got his son in trouble in Texas.

Let the kid play and take his lumps. Let him work out his criticisms. Don't try and protect him like a toddler.

If Chris is tough, he'll show it. Dad doesn't need to demand to the world that we accept his kid's toughness.

Dad needs to back off and stop this media circus. He's just drawing unwanted attention to his son. Let the kid play.

I guarantee Chris' teammates are ragging on him for daddy stepping up.

Stop the BS Phil ... let the kid play!!! :banghead:

This is no cat-fight: more like a gentlemen's quarrel. Young showed his usual class in clarifying his remarks, rather than reacting aggressively, as others might have, to Simms' suggestion that he doesn't work at his job very diligently.

Yes he is and yes he was. LOL I have to say as a player I thought he was decent and a real fighter as an analysis during games I think he does a good job and I enjoy watching the games he covers. By the way he will be doing the Cowboys/Denver game

The Young and Simms fracus stemmed from Steve Young saying that Phil's boy Chris lacks the mental toughness to succeed in the NFL. This was mentioned on Mike & Mike in the Morning. Golic defended Phil Simms, that if it was his son, criticism of mental toughness is going to be challenged.

I totally disagree,,, maybe you would have a point if Phil jumped all over Young for making football critiques regarding Chris Simms, but Young wandered into the family life and upbringing of young Simms(which he knows absolutely nothing about) which is totally off-base. If anybody needs to shut up it's Steve Young,,, "lassaiz faire" atmosphere??? them's fighting words! and doesn't Steve Young come from a very well-off family out of Utah?

Yeah, he outta be more like Archie and stay out his sons' careers!

Seriously, I agree with Young. The youngsters don't have the toughness of the older guys. You think Meridith would have sat out because of a concussion or a sports hernia? Do you think Jorgenson would have complained about the rules not protecting the QB? Would Bart Starr ever slide 2 yards short of a first down so he wouldn't get hit?

What would Roger do?

Phil has been very unprotective of his son for his entire career. Anytime somebody mentions that Chris Simms may have had a tough time living up to the name, Phil eschews that.

I can see Phil's point. I don't have any children, but if somebody questioned the toughness of one of my friend's or family members, I'd get ticked off and tell them they don't know what they are talking about. Gotta say I'd do the same for my son, too.

If they knew more about concussion back then and long term effect the teams may have treated it differently. No doubt those guys were tough but there was a lot of unknowns from a medical stand point

Drew Pearson once said that no matter what the score was or how much time was on the clock, as long as Roger was in the huddle he believed that the Cowboys would win the game. I felt the same way about Phil Simms. As long as he was in the Giants huddle and Jim Jeffcoat was playing defense, I always believed that the Cowboys would win the game. :)

Age is playing tricks with my memory, but it seems like Jeffcoat single handedly stole two games from Simms in the 4th quarter by running in fumbles. I'm sure someone on the board has a better recollection.

Who is Steve Young to be talking about anyone's upbringing? Mr. "Silver Spoons" himself.
