I forgot, I also read Thinner. So I've actually read two Stephen King books. I actually just watched Thinner on TV about two days ago too. Book is better.

I actually have never read anything by Steven King, not because i don't like him (obviously i haven't read him) but the opportunity never presented itself and I've never made the effort for some odd reason until very recently. I recently bought a couple but i haven't read them yet. If you want to recommend a few that would be great, especially ones that will help with The Dark tower series.

The green mile, It and the Stand.

IMO they are the best from him but he has many more that are good with a few so so ones in there and some stinkers.

Concerning the dark tower series.

I read the first 3-4 but did not get the newer ones. I have heard they were not as good and seemed like he just rushed the last few to be done with the series. I might get them down the road to have something to read.

One thing I like about Kings books is some of the cross over with some characters and themes.

If you read the dark tower series you would see some themes that are also in other books like Dreamcatcher, The Talisman and the black house.

Like I said...King has some very good books with good characters, the only problem some might have is he tends to drone on some with descriptions and boring details at times.

Hearts in Atlantis (the movie) makes a lot more sense also.

Hearts in Atlantis, the book, kind of irked me.

Got the feeling that he basically had some short stories that he more or less grouped together to make one book.

But yes I know what you mean about them working together.

There is that type of central theme of the LINE, kind of like his version of the force from star wars, that is in some of his books.

I think there was also a part in Rose Madder and Delores Claiborne during an eclipse where the main character seen into the other's world.

Then you have dream catcher that talks a little bit about some things from the It book.

Just kind of cool to catch little things like that.

I never made it through Rose Madder, but I know there was also a connection in Gerald's Game to Delores Claiborne.

There was also a connection with some cop in the fictional town of Castle Rock, from Needful Things to The Dark Half. I remember liking The Dark Half as a book but not as a movie.

Yeah, I did not care for the movie either.

The majority of his movies are pretty good though.

Speaking of one of his works that was a great book and movie.

When green mile first came out they came out in small books and you had to wait some period in between to get the next book. It was aggravating but at the same time it just made you hungry for what came next.

I borrowed the books from a friend during that time but eventually bought the book when it was put into one.

Yeah the Green Mile was a home run in both mediums. More towards one aspect of his writing that I do like: good story, good characters and light on the supernatural stuff.

I am reading the series by Steig Larsson also. I just finished reading The Girl Who Played with Fire and I absolutely loved it. I am trying to find The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest at a lower price before I start reading it but I am having trouble waiting haha. Are you liking The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet Nest so far?

I keep hearing everyone talk about the Girl who did this or that books.

I have no clue of what they are about but keep hearing people say they like the books.

I might have to get them soon as I have been in the mood to read but have not bought any new books for some time now.

Have been reading books over and over again and need something new.

You know when you have started reading shogun for the 10th + time, that it is time to get some new books. :laugh2:

So what type of books are the Girl who did (insert actions here) about. Is it a romance book..if so that is out. Is it a supernatural book, science fiction, action, murder mystery?

Thanks BP.

BTW, I've talked to several people and have read some more reviews since i started this thread about The Dark Tower series and people seem to think the last one (Book 7) was really good. But you're right i'm not hearing too many complements about Books 5 & 6.

I don't know if the question was directed to me but i plan to reading it tonight, so i will keep you posted.

As far as price, i think I saw it on sell for around $15 at Walmart or Target (originally almost $28). Also, there is a book store called Books A Million or something like that and they had it marked 30% off. I imagine other book stores will also have it discounted for the holidays.

Funny you mentioned Shogun, i just picked up a copy from a used bookstore a few weeks ago. I've never read it but i plan to get to it soon.

As for The Girl Who..... I really like the first 2, the second one is actually a bit better IMO. It is definitely not a romance book. :laugh1: Its more mystery action than anything else.

I really like the main character, Lisbeth. She is a very complex character who original and doesn't fit neatly into a single category. Very tough, mysterious, abrasive, caring, brilliant, violent, volatile, etc... Her story (childhood and adolescence) is revealed very slowly and NOT in the first book. But her background is so crucial to understanding her as adult that when you are finished with the first book, you're left wanting some explanations. When i read the first book, i didn't know that it was just the first book of a short series. I was so pissed off.:laugh2:

I finished reading the first 4 books in this series, finished Wizard and Glass last night, and all i can say is WOW. Unbelievable piece of writing, just wonderful. The second and third books are particularly great. I can't wait to finish the rest.

The Dark Tower is a great series. And whoever said the series is finished, it's not. King announced in 2009 that he was writing an 8th book in the series, The Wind Through the Keyhole.

There are also graphic novels that show Roland's origins prior to The Gunslinger, and I fully intend to buy them at some point, though I haven't to this point.

The first four books were very entertaining to me. The Gunslinger (Book I) is an obvious favorite, but I liked the Drawing of the Three (Book II) and Wizard and Glass (Book IV) as the second best books in the series.

Wolves of the Calla (Book V) was simply a painful experience. Same with Song of Susannahh (Book VI). Those two books burned me out, but I am hoping to get some time to pick up the last one in 2011.

I enjoyed the first 4 books. Books 5 and 6 were the weakest of the series, IMO, but 7 was great.

My favorite of the series was book 4 I think.
Agree with everything but Book 7 being great. I did love the ending though. I won't mention it though so I don't spoil it for anyone.

I found his past much more interesting than the present when the story takes place.

I finally finished all seven books. As a whole its a great piece of work. I'm glad i got the chance to read it in its entirety and within a short time span.

I still like the 2nd and 3rd books best, followed by the 1st and 4th. Books 5 and 6 were a bit of a drag. Basically what most have said already. I didn't particularly feel like book 7 was as great as some people made it out to be, although i did like the way he ended Roland's quest. Generally final books of long sagas are a bit of a let down for me. I enjoy the journey so much that that by the time i get to the destination i find it to be a little anticlimactic.

As someone else already mentioned, there is supposed to be another book (book 8) that he is working on focusing more on smaller characters. I've also heard some talk about a movie as well as a TV series.

The mini-series kind of ruined it for me, but I thought The Stand was clever.

Last I heard, JJ Abrams owns the rights to turn the books into a movie and said he'd start working on a film or tv version of it after Lost was over. Wouldn't be surprised to see something announced for 2013 soonish.

The way the book is laid out, they would have to blow it out of the water to get a movie series made, no production company will commit to 7+ movies.
