Still concerns on Defense?

um no they punted first possession then scored on 5 straight we were down 0-7 to start

contained ?

the stats with the long run like 9.8 YPC, without 6.7 , lmao thats not containing the giants didnt stick with it or the game would have been closer , much closer.. we still win but another 35-28 type game and the defense..

IT IS A CONCERN , NO SUGAR COATING THAT PERFORMANCE..

500yards, one total sack, no ints, and really the giants shot themselves in the foot..

tired of hearing about points and it was 17 that counts..

clean it up of the better teams turn those yards into points and losses..trust me its a concern..
Calm down, I owned my mistake.
Secondly, and I try to say it simpler, yards don't matter when you double the opposing teams score.

Maybe you're "tired of hearing about points," but that's all that matters, not yards or averages. Points!

How many games did we have in the past where we dominated in all the stats and time of possession only to lose the game? Do you consider that a win?

Lastly, we're not going to face a better RB than Barkley (who scored ZERO points) so feel free to go into panic mode. I see the defense doing a better job against the run moving forward.

Nah. We rested key players. Some key players (Tank, Byron and T Crawford) are basically in TC mode. Might take a minute to get back 100%. And we haven't seen Robert Quinn yet either.

The season is a grind. By week 10 our defense will be easily top 10.

its trend once you watch the Colts, Rams and now this game.. they haven't shown they can stop the run and then you let that QB and set of Jag WRs make you lok fooliosgh?

its hard to swallow, until they prove they can slow team down more , id say its huge concern..

BTW they cant look over at the score and say we are doubling up lets let the offense run up and down on us.. the biggest chunks of yards were early and yes some late but that first drive or two the Giants moved the ball at will and only stopped themselves getting cute and going away from Barkley and that TE who are two of their best players..if they had coached a better game sure we would have won but those yards would have been turned into points..

hopefully they are making strides to correct this but the last two teams have put 400yards rushing on us, thats embarrassing..

I wouldn't make too much about one game. The Giants upgraded their offensive line the last two years. Its much better now than it was last year. I think they are better on offense now that people think. Eli has always been able to throw accurate passes if he has had time. The trick to stopping Barkley is to get in the backfield right away. The Cowboys did not do that.

I do understand the concern though. This game looked too much like the Colts and Rams games of 2018, at least on defense. Most defenses will be better than the Giants so if Dallas doesn't score 5 TDs on consecutive drives, will they be able to win games?

I expect the DE play will get better once Quinn comes back. At least I hope so. I also expect the LBs will play better than they played against the Giants. They were missing in action against the running game. As a unit, the defense did not play as well as they did last year. I think that will change.

But again, the way the Giants ran against the Cowboys looked too much like the Colts and Rams. I hope this is not something we will see every team doing.

Its pretty much par for the course without Gregory or Quinn at the other DE position. This team just cant create much of a pass rush with ONLY Lawrence and the other guys.

We need turnover machine Donovan Wilson back.

I'm actually only half kidding. That kid just makes plays. Yeah, he hasn't done it in the regular season (yet) but hopefully he gets a chance. If we can get Quinn on the other side of DLaw and Wilson can take the place of Heath, I think this defense can be scary good.

Its the first game and they up 10 points,if AD gashes us again i would be worried.

It's hard to say this early, but I find Wilson intriguing. I just don't know if he's better than Heath or Frazier at this point.

I still think we are weak at DT. Thought so after the 2018 season, thought so after FA, thought so after the draft, think so now.

A. Woods would be a great backup. As a starter, he's passable. It will never happen with this coaching regime but better player here would make a world of difference.

And no I'm not blaming everything on the DTs...before that crowd chimes in...

I know the flash and hype is generated around the Moore offense, is getting all the headlines, but I still have concerns about the Defense- and its ‘the defense that still continues to remain our doom and downfall in the playoffs – it’s been this unit that sends us home for good.
Will we better than this as the season gets going and we meet top offensive NFL teams?

My concerns:
Lack of pass rush and still not as solid vs run as we need to be.. Still the lack of turnovers and
I still think we have concerns in the interior middle on the DL.
And the LB play was up and down, imo LVE not only slipped in that big Barkley run, but both he or Jaylon was up and down.

So much was hyped and built up about the depth of the DL, but what about the quality of this depth ?

I’ll say it again, I do not like having Crawford as an end, we are at a downgrade when he has to start there, and he is far less of a productive rusher there than what he is as a nickel 3 tech.but he is remains a Marinelli fav and trustee.
I’m so ready for a permanent change and upgrade vs Crawford at DE. Quinn is such a big pleasant surprise hope for me.

I didn’t think rotation guys like Armstrong and Hyder had much stand out effectiveness as i hoped as pass rushers either, ... either the Giants OL is more decent than what is generally thought, ..or we are still overrated as a defensive line unit.

- Giants still had over 400+ yards of offense,
- Eli had over 306 yrd passing and a TD,
- barkley had 120 yards on just 11 carries,
- immobile Eli was only sacked once.
- TE Evan ingram normally non factor vs us, had a career day with 11 catches for 111 yards and a TD,
- And it wasn’t’ dink and dunk as NYG had 7.1 per play avg.
- Cheeto is still getting beat deep.. and still not getting his head turned to make plays- (much better in forward than he is turn & go)
- and we still are not getting the INTs from this DB unit.

The bright spots ?
-Despite the yards surrendered, NYG only got 17 total points – the last 7 given up with soft play
with the game largely in check.
-NYG was only 2 out of 11 on 3rd down conversions
- A couple of huge 4th down stops to thwart NYG threats
-Woods caused a fumble that NYG recovered.
- Dlaw seemed to be coming on as game wore on, after out so long this summer

When we eventually come to play the better offensive teams, the better QBs (brady, brees, Rodgers, wentz, goff) we are going to be far better challenged than what we were vs Eli and the Giants.
Don't let the final score in the Rams game fool you, because that was a 8pt loss that should've been a 30pt blowout. The defense failed in that game but the offense was absolute trash for 99% of that game. The only reason the game was close at the end was because of all the mistakes the Rams made during that game, and it was a bone headed Aqib Talib play that led to the meaningless TD. If the defense does take a step back and is the reason why the Cowboys don't advance then I don't want to hear any excuses , because if Dak really is better than Romo then he should be able to overcome it.

The problem with defense against the run is a LVE issue. He's great but he sometimes get's out of his gap responsibility. He fixed the issue during the game unlike against the Rams. I personally feel like we will be a top 5 defense in points per game when its all said and done.

FWIW, I still have concerns about the offense. Having a single successful gameplan against the hapless Giants doesn't suddenly make this offense "world beaters" and the best thing since Norv Turner was here. I need to see this over the course of the season, once there's more tape on Kellen's playcalling tendencies and once the O faces aggressive, complex defenses. I want to see what happens with Kellen and Dak when Plan A isn't working. What adjustments will be made if, god forbid, a key offensive player gets injured?

So, yeah, I have concerns about the defense, but I still have concerns about the new offense, and about the special teams too (how will Maher perform under pressure?). Only time will tell....need to see consistent success in all 3 phases over the course of the next few months before I can express true confidence.

Giving up gobs of yards on D is always a problem. Sooner or later you'll face a better team who will turn those yards into points.

Although the problems do start there. Weak in the middle means other players have to make up for it. Which makes other parts of the D weak. We'll never complete the puzzle of putting together a top 5 D until we understand that disruptive DT's is an absolute must.

The building of a good DL is from the inside out, that's why Johnson spent a 1st on a DT. A good DE will not make a DL better, Lawrence is good, not great, but he hasn't made the DL better because edge rushing is second to the push up the middle like Donald brings.

The problem with Booger is DT ain't sexy, unless it's Donald, the DE's get all of the glory. Any D with the DT's and MLB built as the base is a very good D because even in the passing days of the NFL, it's still all about stopping it up the middle first. And good DT's keep the OL off the LB's. Without that, the OL gets to the 2nd level too easily.

Fletcher Cox is much sexier than Morris Claiborne.
