Still in Search of 'Leaders' on this team..

Let me be clear first that i'm not of the opinion that we need to have one loud mouth player to act as a leader. Nor is this a 'the sky is falling' post. However, i am very concerned about what appears to me to be a lack of any type of leadership on this team, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

One can argue that Ellis is that guy on defense and we all have seen him on the sidelines trying to inspire the 'troops'. Other than Ellis, i don't see anybody else who has or is willing to step up and try and arouse some type of emotion. I thought maybe Tank will be the other person on D, but he has been largely absent.

And Yes, i understand that there are a lot of players that lead by example, and they get paid millions to be inspired to play, etc......... The reality is that no matter who who we are or how much money we get paid to do what we do we all need a little swift kick on the bum every once in a while.

We don't need someone to be barking every game. We just need someone who can gather and refocus the players when things get tough. I don't see Wade or Garrett doing it, MBIII is too quite of a person to do it, Witten is just a work horse and doesn't seem to talk much, TO might be afraid that his actions will be misinterpreted by the media, Romo, so far, seems to sit on the bench and pout after a turnover .........

There were a lot of things that went wrong during yesterday's game. I don't even want to go through those in detail. But the game was within reach the entire time, someone needs to step up and refuse to let the game slip away. We might still lose but at least we lose trying. What i saw yesterday was a team that wasn't hungry, motivated, and in the end angry enough to win the game.

Here is to hoping they learn from this one.

Agreed, I watched the media videos on the Cowboys main page, and I saw Z. Thomas, T New, Brady, Ellis, ... they all seemed real philosophical, like coaches or something.

I wish we had someone, or more than one to throw a helmet at a locker, or kick over a bench, or show some emotion, ... ala C. Haley or M. Irvin.

I wish they all were mad.

I want a guy who just hates the team he plays again.

I want a guy who hates the Commanders, Eagles, and Giants so much that he'd like to grind them to a dust. I'd like a guy to throw his helmet into the locker room walls when we've had a horrible first half.

(not necessarily the throwing stuff), but we need that attitude in order to get anywhere. After seeing this stuff against the Eagles at home last year, the Giants playoff game, and this Commanders game, we really do seem to be nice guys (not that there's anything wrong with nice guys, per se) who don't exactly HATE the rest of the NFC East.

I hate the Commanders, Eagles, Giants. Do the Dallas Cowboys?

Keep looking, as Parcells was looking for how many years. I doubt Wade will find any since his personality is to keep taking the blame when you have 12 players on the field after a time out....

I think with FA, and the big salaries, times have simply changed.

In todays game, the guys meet at midfield before and after the game and hug, and laugh.

Can you even picture Randy White, Cliff Harris, Charlie Waters, Bob Lilly, Roger Staubach, or even Billy Bates doing this ???

Now, after a loss they just go out and get in their $80,000 Hummers and drive to their $500,000 mansion.

Must be tough.

I can see that having something to do with it. But, you still have players like Ray Lewis, Tom Brady (when healthy), the older Manning, who do it often. Brady straight up walks up and down the bench and cusses everybody out. Manning gets on his WRs and OL, and Ray Ray, well, nuff said.

very few players hate other players or team..alot of them hang out together in the offseason..we the fans get more emotional of the games..heck they pray together after games, just hope your talent beats the other teams talent!

Another reason why having laid back low key guys as captains doesn't necessarily translate into good motivation for even a professional club like this one...Barber, case in point...I just don't see Emmitt sitting there too quietly if he gets 8 carries in a game.

Oh yeah, I agree, ... I still see them, just not wearing stars on their helmets.

Nobody love the Cowboys more than I do, I just wish they ALWAYS played with the passion on this board. I don't see it.

Yesterday I think we came out ready, and went down and scored, and our D was hammering their QB.

Then, it was like we had proved our point, and so we let up. And then we could never fully regain the momentum. Ol' Mo is hard to get back when you lose it.

When this team is focused, I would play anybody in the league.

First things first. Strip Bradie James of his Captain status.

Hey Bradie, all games mean something.

Yeah, that's sounds about right. We have been talking about it on this board for a few years now, we need that 'killer instinct', maybe even a mean streak to finish off opponents we should dominate. That someone, a leader, can be the one leading that wrath.

Yeah, when i read that i was taken back by it. I can see a player saying that we will learn from the loss and move on, or something like that but to actually say that it didn't mean anything is not the kind of attitude i want to see from a captain. I hope that quote was taken out of context.

A common myth is that to function effectively, teams need a strong, powerful, and charismatic leader. In general, leaders who control all the details, manage all the key relationships in the team, have all the good ideas, and use the team to execute their "vision" are usually overworked and underproduction. Teams with strong leaders may succumb to flawed and disastrous decision making.

Also...

It may seem ironic but one of the most effective ways to learn is to experience failure. A failed team effort should be viewed as a critical source of information from which to learn. The true mark of a valued team member is a willingness to learn from mistakes. However, this learning can only come when people take personal responsibility for their actions.

Reading a book about teams and teamwork, hope that helps lol.

This team looks up to whiners like Greg Ellis as leaders and then people wonder why they have a loser mentality.
