Still not excited abour our QB situation

Love that Weeden is no longer there but have not been very impressed with Cassell. Is it me or does anyone else feel he simply has trouble putting drives together and finishing them. I feel that with the amount of years hes been in the League our Offense should be much better than its performing.

Shocking...because Jerry and Jason like Cassel's ball skills..and full body of work.

He's bad. Probably one of the worst backups in the league. He looks like a 7th round 3rd string rookie in his second pereseason game. Now all that said perhaps he's getting no help with this complicated system and its coaches? Perhaps weeden had the same problem but we should see some improvement in Cassel sooner than later.
Wish we could see some significant improvement where he would show some signs of a potential starter.

Welcome to October.

Cassel has been in the league a number of years but he's only been with the Cowboys since mid September. It's not easy bringing in a QB who spent training camp and the first few weeks of the season with another team and get them ready to start. It takes awhile to fully learn the offense and become acclimated with the receivers. Doubt you can point to too many teams that have brought in a QB during the season and had success with them as a starter.

Dez hasn't been right since Cassel took over so it's hard to put a ton of blame on the guy when he entered a bad situation having to take over for a backup who wasn't getting it done. Rarely does anything good come from having to go from one backup QB to another to help try and save your season. Picking the wrong backup QB to enter the season is what created this situation.

I found myself getting disappointed with him but it's to be expected, he has very little time and even less chemistry with this entire offense.

Secondly our pass protection or the lack of quick outs had him taking too many hits.. Many of his passes were disrupted...

I see Cassel as improving, even though his progress may very well be incremental, he's moving the ball a bit better each game. The extremely limited amount of time he's had to absorb the offensive scheme certainly would hamper any QB attempting to do what he being obliged to do. Poor management has had a great deal to do with Cassel's lack of productivity. Jerry's failure to address the QB situation well before this year was simply asking for trouble. Realistically, we have been pretty fortunate it took this long for the QB problems we're experiencing now to develop.

Any chance we can get a current starter to be our backup next year, there will be a lot of young players hitting free agency, and I wouldn't mind seeing Cousins or Bradford as our backup next year, heck even Drew Stanton would be an upgrade over what we have now (he wasn't horrible last year).

If you can grab either Lynch or Geoff in the upcoming draft I would do that over trying to grab another teams starter.
After all if they were that good then they wouldn't be in free agency.

I would draft a top receiver and running back, before even considering a QB in next season's draft.

He is unable to make a basic throw a few times per quarter, one of the worst passers I've ever seen.

Monday night there was a QB on the field that would have made truely won the game no matter what team he was on.

McCoy would have slaughtered the boys in this game. Put a star on his helmet and McCoy would have slaughtered the skins this game.

Dallas offensive philosophy doesn't help cassel much at all.

The offensive philosophy is different with him he's not Romo. Anytime you have to go with a backup you can't do the same exact things you did with your starter. Dez not being 100% healthy isn't helping matters any as is not having a consistent running game. Cassel has limitations which has limited our offense.

What's real funny is that everyone including my self wanted Weedan gone but now I honestly believe we made a mistake. with Weedan we wouldn't have lost 7 in a row. He moved the ball a lot better than Cassell. Cassell for 3 quarters last night looked jittery and uncomfortable in the pocket.

With all due respect (and I apologize for using this analogy but it was the first thing that came to mind), this sounds like the woman whose husband beat and abused her, then when she finally leaves him and finds another man who isn't abusive but might not be as nurturing, she pines for her former spouse.

Weeden gave us ZERO!!! chances to win. He never won a game for the Cowboys, and you honestly believe we wouldn't have loss seven in a row with Weeden behind center?

Really?

The only pass I have seen him throw consistently well is a 15 yard slant or cross which is the Cheatriots bread and butter. Otherwise you pray he never sees the field.

is that worse than Weeden's passes to receivers two yards behind the line of scrimmage?

Yup. Played a good game against Atlanta and New Orleans games we should have won. What has Cassel done, he looks scared in the pocket and confused. Weedan has better arm also.

Both Cassel and Weeden are horrid. Neither one should have an NFL job next season. Comparing these two is like comparing diabetes to high blood pressure: both are terrible and if you don't get rid of them they will kill you.

Weeden was PEDESTRIAN against a 1-3 team! He threw for one touchdown and stalled in so many other offensive series. Yea! He had no turnovers. Actually, that should result in a win, but he couldn't put together consecutive or consistent score drives.
He was the ultimate bush driver, and Garrett didn't trust him to throw deep.
Weeden was AWFUL. He's a one-read quarterback.
As for the Falcons, the guy forces a pass that didn't need to be thrown - which would have, effectively, sealed the game because we would have been up by four scores. And when the Falcons were mounting a comeback, he couldn't do anything. He didn't lead the team to one freaking score in the second half. He had a pathetic 54% quarterback passer rating. He didn't throw a touchdown. In fact, every last one of our touchdowns came off a running play.

No, this is revisionist history at work. There's no doubt in my mind that if Weeden is behind center, we'd be 3-9. He was that bad, which is why he's no longer with this club. We've seen enough of him in Cleveland and in Dallas.
He AINT getting any better. And the fact that he admits he lost confidence, you don't want him anywhere near your starting lineup.

Not sure how you can say he has been considerably worse. At least he won a game.

He's gone 1-4 vs. 0-3..............he's been no better, and he directly contributed to 2 losses that could have been wins with his pick 6's.

He really sucks vs. the blitz....he almost threw a pick when he threw a mile behind a wide open Beasley on a blitz Monday.
