IRVING, Texas – He’s not practicing, but Dez Bryant clearly has no intention of completely missing the Cowboys’ Organized Team Activities.

Bryant is still in the middle of a contract negotiation and has yet to sign his franchise tender, but he told DallasCowboys.com he’d be in attendance Thursday when the Cowboys wrapped up their first week of OTAs.

That’s not exactly a new development for the All-Pro receiver, who is coming off a franchise record-setting 16-touchdown season in 2014. Bryant and the club have been discussing a new contract as far back as last fall, and he hasn’t been active in the voluntary offseason program.

Despite that, he has made regular appearances at the team’s Valley Ranch facility this spring. He stopped by on draft weekend to personally meet with first-round pick Byron Jones, and he has shown up to visit during team workouts.

Dez in my view has handled this situation better than I thought he would and better than I have seen from other players in the past. He acts like a guy who wants to be here and a part of this team, not making threats of wanting out of Dallas.

Many have called him childish and petulant.

Very strange.

I think at times he has been, given his upbringing it never came as a shock that he could be a bit immature. I don't see him as guy going out getting drunk and making it rain at the strip clubs on the other hand TO was not that kind of guy but could be a royal pain and very divisive. Glad to say he has not done either

He can't stay away! His agent is like you need to do this, but if it were up to him he would be there. You know it's killing him!

Dez & the Cowboys are handling the whole thing very well and like business professionals. If only our fan base could do the same. Come game 1 there won't be anybody on the field out working Dez Bryant long term contract or not. Dez is the right kind of guy that Garrett talks about. He loves the game.

I'll admit to being one of those who is worried about the Dez situation (something unexpected happening), but he has handled this situation with maturity and professionalism. I hope this ends up as a happy ever after story for the player and the team.
