Most of this is just hope but I see some Pete Carrol in him. And I am impressed with his confidence to bring in a hot young OC and now DC unlike Garrett and his retreads. But we'll have to see it on the field.

Garrett, Campo and Switzer were plenty likeable...how'd they do?

It's 2026. Players today do not respond to coaches like Johnson and Landry and Parcells. Dan Campbell is probably the only "old school" coach left. Even Pete Carroll, well into his 70s, was one of the "likable" guys.

It's the coaches like Sean McVay, Nick Sirianni, etc. that are able to communicate with this generation of athlete. And I think Schottenheimer fits into that category, even at age 52.

Ah yes, the classic “you’re just negative about everything” response when you don’t actually want to address what I said.

I gave a specific opinion about Schottenheimer and explained why I’m not sold on him. You responded by making it about me personally “bringing down threads.” That’s not a rebuttal, it’s just a convenient way to dismiss an opinion you don’t like.

And “watch the season play out” is literally what we’re going to do. I’m predicting Schotty gets exposed. You apparently think he won’t. That’s called a football discussion. We don't all have to sit around holding hands and praising every Cowboys decision to participate in the thread.

Being the 9th Cowboys HC Jerry has hired, and the 5th HC that had never been an NFL HC before is not an easy hill to climb. The first qualification any new Cowboys HC must have is to not outshine JJ.

Which explains why Jerry likes hiring guys like Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Jason Garrett and Brian Schottenheimer.

I want Schotty to succeed. It’s just harder here than it should be. But hope springs eternal. Even in August.

Shottenheimer would not be a head coach anywhere else. I doubt he would even be an OC. For over 2 decades the guy had about a dozen stops with zero distinction anywhere. He is a fantasy camp head coach.

Just an affable get along to get along type of coach, wasn't the first second or third consideration and kinda tripped and fell into the job much to the fanbases dismay. But just had a little something in how he related to the players and handled the big egos in the lockeroom and the front office.

Maybe we can harness a bit of the same lightning.
