I'm still optimistic about this season.

Weeden was good enough to win this week.

The defense was the biggest problem, IMO. The good thing about that is that Hardy and RoMc will be back next week. I don't know that it will help much against the Patriots but if they had those 2 players, there is a good chance that the past 2 games would have been wins.

The Cowboys are getting gashed by the run and stopping the run is RoMc's top skill.

They also need more pass rush and Hardy has been one of the very best if not the best 4-3 DE in the league. They played Wilber at DE in the Saints game and Wilber, Wilson and Jack Crawford at DE in the Falcons game. Hardy would be a better DE than those guys even with no practice.

They play the Giants in the week after the bye. Gregory and Dez are expected back by then and Hardy/RoMc should be in fully integrated into the defense by then. They should have everybody healthy that week except Romo, Scandrick and Dunbar.

A win against the Giants and they could go on a roll. If they win the division games while Romo is out, they could stay in the hunt to win the division.

What happened to Christine Michael? There are short yardage backs and other specialty players that have to come in to the game "cold" so that's not an excuse. They just needed him to get a yard and he went backwards.

He only got 1 carry despite the fact that the coaches appeared to be irritated with Randle and started using McFadden more (11 carries for Randle, 10 for McFadden). McFadden appeared to be injured as he was more tentative in the 2nd half than he has been in previous games. It seemed the perfect time to see Michael but I guess the coaches just don't trust him.

Now that Dunbar is out and Randle has irritated the coaches, Michael really needs to step up next week; however, he had a big chance this week and failed miserably. I'm still optimistic but he needs to get serious in practice this week and get himself ready even if he has to come in "cold".

They were about even in time of possession against the Saints but to have a chance against the Patriots they need for win the TOP battle. The running game is the key to TOP. Basically the season is riding on C-Mike stepping up to the plate next week to protect the defense. If he does not step up next week they probably lose the game.

The line got absolutely destroyed on the play. The Saints knew exactly what was coming.

There was room if he made the right moves, put his head down and powered through. That's the point of a short yardage RB.

Plenty of us were worried about this team holding up against the run. At that time we were told to 'keep quiet' and 'Rod knows more than you!'

Not looking all that great at this point, despite some early promise.

I don't see how Michael failed miserably when the play was FUBAR from the beginning.

IIRC there was nothing different he could of done to gain that yard. The defense knew it was a run and where it it was heading.

Watch it in slow motion. He hesitated and didn't get low and try to power through. There was a smaller guy to his right that he could have powered over but he ran into the bigger DL and gave up. Very disappointing. I had high hopes for this guy.

I thought for sure when they brought him in for that play it was just a decoy and going to be a play action fake or a dump off pass to get the first.

I was actually shocked they called that play.

I agree with you. It was a perfect set up for a fake to CMike and a toss to Witten. Our coaches sometimes over think the game and at other times just become so vanilla it hurts. The mistakes we make, 10 men on the field for the 2 point conversion last week against the Falcons and 12 men on the field leading to a missed field goal becoming a made field goal says to me that Garrett is not a good coach. This would never happen to Belicheck, never!! It is common place in our system.

I agree on the top level optimism, the big issues are the lack of a pass rush and running game. Hardy and Gregory returning will fix the pass rush.

On the running game, I've always thought Randle was a good 3rd down back out of place as the #1 guy. With Dunbar injured I would definitely move Randle back to that role and play DMC more. I would also be fine trading for Forte if they get a reasonable deal.

I'll watch it again today. I admit I only saw it in real time and then walked off.

That is a big key IMO, last year the team could pound the running game, control the clock and keep the defense off the field. This year the OL isn't playing well and Randle isn't a guy that can sustain that kind of game. Last night I felt like we were going to lose at the start of the 4th Quarter because they couldn't get the running game going.

I think Leary and Martin getting 100% healthy will help the OL quite a bit but they really need to change the RB dynamic.

Parnell would of allowed Michael to get the first and a TD.

:D

I'm starting to think that we should have keep Parnell and let Free walk, i saw 4 plays yesterday where free was blew up on run play and 2 where he was out of position on pass block and almost got a sack on Weeden.

I was hoping they would give him some carries before putting him in that situation. 3rd and 1 when the defense is keying on you not a real great way to get your 1st carry of the game.

The should have put a sign on his back. I'm getting the ball and my line sucks.

It's 1 yard an he is a freak athlete power back. I don't understand why he would let us down like he did.

He is a Sparq superstar and can't even get 1 yard when the team desperately needed it.

They traded for him and used a valuable 53 man roster spot on him while he was learning the scheme. All he had to do to repay their loyalty was to get 1 stinking yard. I'm tried of all the excuses for players that don't perform. I thought the cupcake days were over. Does he even care about the team or is he just collecting a paycheck. Maybe his hips are just too stiff to make the simple move that he needed to make to get that yard.

In the offseason I thought Free could of been serviceable this year, with his replacement in Collins or Green taking over next year. Too bad we don't have anyone this year who can unseat Free even in his declined state. Collins looks to be strictly a guard and Green is probably a redshirt player this year
