I'm still optimistic about this season.
Weeden was good enough to win this week.
The defense was the biggest problem, IMO. The good thing about that is that Hardy and RoMc will be back next week. I don't know that it will help much against the Patriots but if they had those 2 players, there is a good chance that the past 2 games would have been wins.
The Cowboys are getting gashed by the run and stopping the run is RoMc's top skill.
They also need more pass rush and Hardy has been one of the very best if not the best 4-3 DE in the league. They played Wilber at DE in the Saints game and Wilber, Wilson and Jack Crawford at DE in the Falcons game. Hardy would be a better DE than those guys even with no practice.
They play the Giants in the week after the bye. Gregory and Dez are expected back by then and Hardy/RoMc should be in fully integrated into the defense by then. They should have everybody healthy that week except Romo, Scandrick and Dunbar.
A win against the Giants and they could go on a roll. If they win the division games while Romo is out, they could stay in the hunt to win the division.
What happened to Christine Michael? There are short yardage backs and other specialty players that have to come in to the game "cold" so that's not an excuse. They just needed him to get a yard and he went backwards.
He only got 1 carry despite the fact that the coaches appeared to be irritated with Randle and started using McFadden more (11 carries for Randle, 10 for McFadden). McFadden appeared to be injured as he was more tentative in the 2nd half than he has been in previous games. It seemed the perfect time to see Michael but I guess the coaches just don't trust him.
Now that Dunbar is out and Randle has irritated the coaches, Michael really needs to step up next week; however, he had a big chance this week and failed miserably. I'm still optimistic but he needs to get serious in practice this week and get himself ready even if he has to come in "cold".
They were about even in time of possession against the Saints but to have a chance against the Patriots they need for win the TOP battle. The running game is the key to TOP. Basically the season is riding on C-Mike stepping up to the plate next week to protect the defense. If he does not step up next week they probably lose the game.
