Stop over-inflating the term rebuilding

I keep seeing people flipping out over the idea that we are rebuilding with a 34 year old QB.

Things this team has rebuilt in the last few years

1. The RB Corps (used to be primarily marion barber and felix jones)
2. The WR Corps (Dez Bryant is now the veteran WR here, think about that)
3. The LB Corps (Bradie James and Keith Brooking)
4. The Secondary (Newman, Jenkins, Sensabaugh, Ball)
5. Offensive Line (Adams, Allen, Gurode, Davis)

Are the Cowboys rebuilding the defensive line? Yeah they are. Does this mean that they just started some rebuilding process? Not at all. They've been rebuilding since 2011.

I think the defense will REBOOT with a new defensive line, but I don't necessarily think we need to rebuild our entire defense. A lot of that will depend on how our efforts have gone. Clearly it didn't help changing schemes within the middle of a rebuild, but that doesn't change the fact that this has been in motion for quite some time.

Those linemen we are letting go just lasted longer than most of the other positions because the front office thought they could go longer. They were wrong. I was wrong. They're doing the most appropriate thing right now though, which is starting over on the defensive line.

What? rebuilt? Please, of the units you listed, none are fully rebuilt. We have been treading water for the past couple of years thinking we're right there on the edge.

Well we're not on the edge, we are competing for first in a crap division.

This year we won't even compete IMO.

That said, I like the fact that it appears we decided to finally rebuild, and I don't care if it takes 2-3 years,(and it will) I don't care if we're stuck with a 34 year old QB who is ridiculously over-paid. In 2 years of less we'll have a new QB and be ready to begin to challenge, I can't wait.

That is assuming Jerry will listen to football people, but that's always been the catch.

So would the politically correct "reloading" be more acceptable?

I think this rebuilding idea is just a new way to come at Jerry. "The poor old devil finally realized he had to do something" LOL But firing the coach and cutting 9 players back in 2011 wasn't rebuilding and releasing Ware and not resigning Hatcher is. Gimme a break.

You would think that Cowboys fans would know better than to feed into the anti cowboys bias.

So many teams out there likes the Browns and Jaguars are never good. Some other teams like Seattle and San Fran were REALLY bad before they got good. Jerry has tried to win every year, and fielded a team that is somewhat in contention. Have we gotten there? No. But, I think most people should be able to recognize the fact that we've tried year in and year out, where many teams have gone full rebuild in one year. In 2011, I'd say we started going through a managed bankruptcy.

I think the biggest knock on Jerry is that he has been an inpatient fan. He has wanted to win now for a while. Which causes him to get frustrated and go in a new direction far too often... Phillips > Garrett >>> Rob Ryan >>> Kiffin > Marinelli

The switching of systems costs a lot in terms of rebuilding. Note that the offense which has changed the slowest has probably been the most consistent.

This team does not need to be rebuilt.

The pass rush does.

There is Jerry, however.

I prefer the term surge myself.

We are going to create a surge, a bunch of new bodies, added to the DL to repel the invading offensive forces

They've made aggressive changes every year since Garrett started. From dumping all those guys in 011 to dumping Newman and not re-signing Jenkins and this year Ware and not re signing Hatcher and even with the system changes if Rat, Spencer and Crawford had put in a good season I think they would won 2 more games at least in 013. Managed bankruptcy is a good way to put it.

The Cowboys used the term "retooling" about 2 years ago.......and they've done it.

How can you rebuild from a team when your core is Demarco Murray, Dez Bryant, Sean Lee, Tyron Smith, Claiborne, Brandon Carr, etc.? All of those guys are in their mid 20's lol. So what? You want to go out and get 19 year olds? There's not much to rebuild from and the only position that is "old" is the qb position.

1 playoff win in 15+ years. We haven't been competitive, Jerry has jus sold it as competitive.

Most quarterbacks are overpaid these days because they are overvalued and overprotected by the league. If you have a good one then you can at least be competitive. Without Romo, Dallas would be a hideous place to play football in my opinion. He puts a lot of lipstick on the oink-oink!
