All the other teams that run the 3-4 don't have problems getting to the QB

But look at their personnel. San Diego and Baltimore have text book 3-4 Defenses. A front 3 that consistently create penetration. 3 or 4 LB's that make plays and create havoc (not one). a FS that could easily be a CB and plays centerfield. We don't have this. Even when Greg Ellis was back there, we only had 2 play making LB's. And the Defensive line does not get enough of a push. And we have not had a solid FS since DW left.

We are either not teaching these guys right, or the players can't handle the scheme.

A couple of points here.

First off, yes, stop the Zimmer bashing, our defense lacked talent in 2003, but we were very aggressive and defenses knew we would come after them. I really believe in 2003, Zimmer had more control over the play calling then he does today.

Also, do you really think Zimmer is working in a vaccuum and has totally autonomy over the defense? Heck know, Parcells eat, sleeps and you know what his football team and has his hand all over it.

Another point, please please please stop bashing the 3-4 Defense, the Pittsburgh Steelers just won a freakin World Championship with it last year. If you have the right player, put them in a position to win and scheme correctly it wont matter what scheme you have.

The only thing that is Parcells fault is not canning Zimmer and bringing in a real 3-4 DC.

We have no evidence that was ever an option.

We could have let him go to Nebraska but kept him.

Our failure was to believe he could effectively run a defense that he honestly was not an expert at.

Yesterday destroyed a lot of faith I had in Coach Parcells, because this is his defense ultimately, no matter who we have as the coordinator.

All that is clear right now is there is no "conscience" around like Belichick was for him before.

The best defense in football runs the scheme. It is still an effective scheme if you utilize what it is built to represent and that is mismatches and confusion.

We do not have the rusher at strongside linebacker, nor apparently smart enough players overall or coaches adequate enough to educate them to employ complex blitzing to make up for a lack of pressure. So we go with brute strength on brute strength. Since we lack Carl Banks and above all, Lawrence Taylor, we are getting beaten with that approach.
