I feel confident saying the majority of people reading this spend less than $4,700 a month on their rent or their mortgage payments. But Jean Strahan, the ex-wife of Giants defensive end Michael Strahan, can't afford the $4,700 a month she has to spend -- on utility bills for her mansion.
Yes, the $3.6 million mansion Mrs. Strahan and her infant twins live in is so enormous that it costs $4,700 just for heating and cooling. And she says she can't afford it on the $3.7 million savings account she lives on, which is why she wants the court to force Michael Strahan to pay her more
I feel very strongly that fathers should be forced to support their children, and I don't object to rich fathers like Strahan being forced to spend big money on child support. But there's something unseemly about this Strahan divorce case. I'm not a legal expert and I don't know all the facts of the case, but the courts seem to have approved a situation in which Jean Strahan is receiving Michael Strahan's money for things so foolish as "$27,000 to dress her infant twins and another $22,500 to photograph them in their snazzy wardrobe." Something doesn't seem right here.

As a professional athlete making a crapload of money, if you ever needed a reason not to get married, I present Exhibit A: Michael Strahan.
And that's Strahan's argument. To his credit, he's paid more than half the $6.5 million, but apparently the court was unmoved. According to the AP, the judge said Strahan acted in "bad faith" by not paying the money, and denied a request by Strahan to avoid making the payment while his appeal of the award was still being processed.
That seems fair. I mean, there's no way in hell a family can live on almost four million bucks. Just can't see it happening. Jeebus, what is it with New York Giants players and their former spouses?

A judge scolded Michael Strahan, defensive end for the Giants, because he has yet to pay his ex-wife $6.5 million, according to a newspaper report. In January, Judge James Convery awarded Jean Strahan $15.3 million and set child support at $18,000 a month.
There are few things worse than a deadbeat who doesn't pay child support, but on what planet should a guy have to fork over $18,000 a month ... unless, maybe, he has a couple thousand kids? What was not mentioned (if they were for sale) were the hidden surveillance cameras allegedly used by Strahan to, um, keep an eye on his ex's sister's dressing habits.
At his divorce trial, it was revealed that Strahan had placed a camera in a bedroom that reportedly captured images of his then-sister-in-law dressing or undressing.
Well, that Strahan sure has led an interesting life.
And for those who say he is ex is not a looker, I say that Strahan, too, is challenged in the looks department.
