I was just thinking what if the Cowboys agree to let Jeff Ireland go on the condition that the Dolphins swap their No. 1 pick with our lower No. 1s.

It's probably far-fetched but would pro-McFadden posters approve of such an arrangement (I know anti-McFadden posters wouldn't) or/and do you think it would be a bad move for the Dolphins?

I was about 5 days ahead of you with this post.

I'm with Nors. If his name pops up heavily in the Miami FO situation, that's going to attract the eyes of other franchises and so if Parcells wants to make a deal, Jones needs to make it so at least we get something out of him.

Bottom line, you can't stop everyone on your staff from leaving if you are a super bowl team or contender.

I just can't understand why anyone really thinks Irelands wants to become the GM under Parcells. Parcells has been credited with all those starters who came to the Cowboys during his tenure here. Ireland hasn't gotten as much recognition throughout the NFL as maybe he should. So why now go to Miami where Ireland again falls under Parcells shadow. Besides I don't believe Parcells will leave the final say to Ireland. Parcells just isn't the kind of many who will change his spots and all of a sudden leaving micromanaging to others.

Under what GM would Ireland have the most draft freedom?

I think with JJ he has his own kingdom with a team he helped assemble.

The decision to move up is all in the hands of Jerry Jones. He and Stephen have been ga-ga over DMac for two years, rightfully so. The decision may have already been made two drafts ago.

This is all contingent on Ireland WANTING to go (should Parcells even want him)...

We can't just trade him for picks...

Ireland if he wants to go could after the draft but not before.
If BP wants him before the draft there will have to be compensation.

I can't see the Dolphins giving up the first overall pick for a GM.
I could see them giving us that top of the second round pick which may work well.

Does Ireland want to go build up the Dolphins and leave here or wait it out here for Jerry to retire and run the show for the Dallas Cowboys?

Not sure but if a top of the second pick is the worst-case scenario I can live with that.

The one caveat being if Jerry re-hires Larry Lacewell to run the drafts I'll strangle myself and then Jerry.

Actually THAT is what worries me most- the return of LACEWELL.
