i am a little confused as to why we didn't draft him or run to the phone for him as a UDFA, esp since we need a Lb who can actually play this year and rush the passer. Personally I would've gone with Jack or Robinson at 34 and got Striker later since he is really similar to Smith, except of course without the career threatening injury. Hope Smith works out for us but not sure why we didn't want striker.

For one, Striker isn't in the same realm of LB that Smith is (granted, yes, if Smith ever gets healthy).

Striker is also undersized at 5-11, 220 for a LB.

The fact that not one team drafted him should be a clue to you that he's largely viewed as a real tweener.

Hitchens and Wilson are better and have experience in our system. Lee is a beast. McClain has his issues but is still an above average NFL LBer. We only play 3 LBers on the field 40% of the time. We'll be alright this year at LBer. The issue is next year when McClain is likely gone and Lee is on his last legs. That's why we got Smith.

Per NFL.com, smith is listed at 223 and Striker is listed at 227. Wouldn't think having Striker add a few pounds would hurt his quickness. Would've been worth a late round pick or UDFA phone call merely to bring in on third down to rush the passer.

Smith dropped weight to rehab I believe

And Smith is 3-4 inches taller too.

There's no comparison between the two.

Buffalo quite frankly had a bigger need at LB than Dallas... I'm sure that caught the attention of the kid... Plus Rex Ryan has "Jerry Jones-like" sales skills.

After losing La'el Collins to the Cowboys, I'd say he had Jerry Jones-less sales skills. ;)

I think we missed out on a great player here what we could have had for peanuts. He may not be Jaylon Smith, but he might be better at pressuring the QB than Smith. This guy could be the Vontaze Burfict performance level UDFA of this draft class without the baggage.
