This is my last mock draft a week out. I think this is the posturing we'll take, because despite the prospect of Patrick Peterson, he simply does not provide what we need long term.

R1. Tyron Smith, RT, USC -- immediate upgrade over Marc Colombo at the RT spot who considers retirement in lieu of taking a backup role. Smith, age 20, has big time potential to become even stronger than he is now, and is already light of foot. This pick helps to bookend our offensive line at the two most important positions for pass protection and in effect extends Tony Romo's career in Dallas.

R2. Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA -- Dallas stays out West and brings in an immediate impact player for the FS position. Lockout uncertainties mean the Cowboys cannot afford to wait on Michael Huff to become available, and rather than potentially over-sign for a CB/S convert who had an All-Pro year against the likes of the stinky AFC West and NFC West, the Cowboys take a guy who has played FS his entire college career. Moore is not huge, but he's a willing and fearless hitter and has amazing range in "center field."

R3. Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia -- In my opinion, the 2nd best "immediate impact" CB prospect in the draft, and the best "boom potential" CB in the draft. Ras-I Dowling is a sure, vicious, wrap-up tackler and very good in both man and zone coverages. He is not necessarily a "ball hawk" but he plays the ball very well in the air and will deflect passes if he can't pick it off. A tough senior campaign with injuries set him back a few rounds, but with Coach Woicik back on board, this guy can be healthier and stronger than ever and ready to start Day 1. He'll push Mike Jenkins to get better, and eventually be our replacement for Newman and could be a Top 5 CB in the league.

R4. John Moffitt, OG, Wisconsin -- Another steal pick, John Moffitt comes in and immediately challenges for the starting gig at either Guard spot, or in the event that Leonard Davis is released (I believe Kosier is the stronger of our two interior linemen) he will start at RG immediately. Two rookies on the right side of the line? Sign me up - they're both young, athletic, and Moffitt is particularly nasty. Pulls better than Leonard Davis ever did in his career and blows linebackers up at the point of attack. Felix Jones will love running counters, traps, and misdirections to the left with Moffitt pulling into the gap behind Doug Free.

R5. Henry Hynoski, FB, Pittsburgh -- The Cowboys whiffed on John Conner last year. Hynoski is like Conner on alien steroids. While I won't claim to have access to "film" his game highlights all over YouTube pretty much suggest that this guy is a Pro Bowl/All-Pro NFL Fullback masquerading as a college player. He is that good - pass protection, run blocking, pass catching, running the ball. If you look up "swiss army battering ram" in the dictionary, you will see a picture of this guy. My only fear is he doesn't last this long...Cowboys might have to make a move to get him in the 4th, possibly.

R6. Cecil Shorts III, WR, Mount Union -- This pick might also require a trade up into the 5th. The best way I can describe Cecil Shorts is that he is like Patrick Crayton, but faster. Cowboys fans have been clamoring for a "stretch the field, burner type." This is your man. While small-school defensive players may struggle transitioning to the NFL because of the level of competition, I see offensive players as being completely different. Mark my words - if we pick this guy, people will not be able to help Roy Williams pack his bags fast enough to leave town. Our new #3 slot man.

R7. Greg McElroy, QB, Alabama -- Roll Tide. While we could probably wait until the undrafted stage to add this guy, we'll go ahead and do a solid for his pops and take McElroy at the end of the draft. He's one of the smartest players in the draft, having graduated with a 3.86 GPA in marketing, which is no easy feat while playing Quarterback for a top-tier SEC football program. While he might not ever be a starter in the league, his football pedigree is good and he is the type of player that will live in Coach Garrett's office picking his brain, most likely resulting in -- you guessed it -- a coaching career.

That's all, folks.

why do so many put Hynoski in the 5th. SI.com has him as a undrafted free agent

I've read that he could get drafted as high as the 4th round. So I guess there are several different opinions of him.

Thumbs up. Nice job. A draft like this would put us in a much-improved position to overcome some of our most bothersome deficiencies. Me likey . . .

Trade back to get Carimi and add Kelvin Sheppard in 3/4, and I'd be celebrating this one all weekend.

Incidentally, I'm not sure I'd put Moffitt in the same room as Martellus and Tashard. Recipe for disaster. Probably funny disaster, but all the same.

I've never seen that fullback play but CA sold me on him.

I think this would be the best possible draft we could walk away with. Except we did not adress LB or DL at all which is kind of concerning.

Thanks for all the comments - I really appreciate them.

This is my reasoning. Conner was going in the 7th in most mocks last year. He went in the 4th, I believe.

I think that this is a particularly weak class for LB. We have one draft steal in Sean Lee -- I'd rather wait a year to find Bradie James' replacement, since Bradie is still pretty good. For DL, it's a strong draft, but I think that our main problem areas are the secondary and offensive line. There will always be blue chip defensive linemen coming out of school - I think we can afford to wait a year, or possibly use free agency to help us out until we can draft a top talent guy.

I'd much rather stop-gap the DL than the OL or secondary. We got shredded through the air last year because of the FS position, and despite scoring 426 points, we struggled to run the ball in short yardage and too often Romo had to create something outside of the pocket.

My main two holes are OL and DB. Fix those and we'll be very, very competitive.

I, like you, love Ras-I Dowling, but to get him it will have to be in the 2nd. He's too good to last until the 3rd. IMO he and Jimmy Smith will be the steals in this draft. It's just my opinion, but I think these two will dominate the league for years. They are true corners that can do it all.

We all love the Hynoski kid, the questions is does Dallas? I can see the Saints very high on him as Peyton loves fullbacks. This kid is a punisher! If we could somehow get this kid it will be like getting another Olineman in the backfield. It's been a long time since I've see a fullback that puts anybody he hits on there backs!!! He can also catch the ball really well and is actually pretty elusive for his size.

My only reservation of this draft is much like Olineman we have been drafting safties for years and still we have not developed one. I'm not convinced we can. That's why I would go FA.

That full back does look really good. Blocks well, catches the ball well, and can move the pile for a yard or 2. I'd be happy if we took him as well.

Great mock man i would just run wild if this happened:bow:

Nice draft.

I'd like N Irving at ILB in Round 5 if possible, though.

We have yet to draft a safety that grades out as a borderline 1st/2nd rounder. Every guy we've drafted is a hope and pray type player, like AOA.

I think Rahim Moore could start day 1. We passed on guys like Nate Allen, Morgan Burnett, etc. when we all knew that we should have taken a shot. Rahim Moore gives us an opportunity to right that wrong, plus, he wants to play here.

I still think teams will not take Ras-I Dowling that high. Maybe a 2nd rounder if he didn't pull up lame at the combine...but I find it amazing that he pulled up and still ran a 4.4-40.

We'll see, but I hope you're wrong ;)

I think Deunta Williams is more of a SS.

I think we go after him if Sensabaugh doesn't re-sign. Otherwise I think we look to fix Alan Ball's spot and I think Dallas will hope a little more for AOA to come around.
