Today I learned that chips and salsa are the Official Snack of Texas and have been since 2003. It makes sense, just never knew there was an "official" snack, do other states have Official snacks?

That's not entirely confirmed FACT. They said tipping points "Could" make them irreversibly doomed. And not all science is on agreement on it. Is what has happened so far extremely worrying? Absolutely. A lot of coral reefs have died or been reduced massively in size. But to say they're definitely going extinct and nothing can be done about it is bad science.

Before global warming they predicted a possible ice age, then when that started to fizzle they went with global warming. But a lot of their predictions for how the world would be now fell flat. It's still concerning, but every one of these climate scientists discount the solar changes. There was more CO2 and warmth 2k years ago than there is now. Why didn't we have a runaway greenhouse effect then? Don't get me wrong, the changes we've made as a species can't be ignored and needs to be mitigated, but all those "Climate experts" conveniently ignore the natural cycles and the effects of a sun that goes through phases.

I get it, but a few years ago, emails were released that proved they doctor evidence to confirm their findings and ignore other evidence. I'm not saying there is no problem and we aren't affecting things. I'm saying it's not pure honest science.

I would also be careful saying, “Scientists say.” Science runs on theories and disagreement. Some scientists think X, some say Y. Claiming consensus is almost always an oversimplification at best.

I learned today that a bacon cheeseburger at Five Guys is $13.99. I just went in there for fries. But when I saw that price, I got dizzy. I've made my own bacon cheeseburgers for over a decade now. I didn't realize prices spiked so much. at Five Guys. Who pays that? The place was empty on a Saturday afternoon, so maybe that's my answer.

I haven't eaten there in about a year but I didn't realize it was that expense. I used to love their fries but after a while I began to realize they are greasy and heavy to eat. Now I smash and cook my own burgers and I make fries in an air fryer. I get no complaints.

I had a knock on my door last Friday at about 8am. I thought it might be a UPS delivery since some of their drivers ring the doorbell when they leave a package. But when I opened teh door I was surprised to see a town cop. Turns out a deer got hung up on my neighbor's fence. Somehow his leg got caught and she broke it badly. The poor thing was unable to get off the fence and was badly inured so the cops had to shoot it and needed to access the fence through my backyard. Coincidentally, we just ordered a fence to be installed in my yard to corral our two dogs.

This was the second time this year a deer had to be shot for getting hung up on my neighbors fence. We had another one stuck in the spring.

We are having a huge problem with deer in our neighborhood. There are too many of them and they are roaming through yards in packs as large as 8 or 9. 10 years ago, we had no deer running around like this. Now they are all over the place. I read that 5 to 15 deer per square mile is a healthy population. But in some areas around me the population is as high as 300 per square mile! The deer have become socialized now and don't run from people. Even when I walk my dogs they stand and watch but seem to know they are no threat because they are on a leash.

I started reading about the problem and what the town is going to do about it. I read some interesting facts.

First, there are no natural predators in my area. There are fox and coyotes, but the fox seem to prefer the smaller game. Coyotes are not numerous enough to put a dent in the deer population.

But the striking fact I learned is that in the last 15 years or so the number of hunting licenses issued in NJ has just about halved. The number of deer taken during hunting season is much smaller than in the past so the population is multiplying without any control. This has caused the deer population to grow and spread into the suburbs. They really have nowhere else to go.

The fact that the number of hunters is dwindling is another example of our society changing.

It's funny you mention this. The last time I was in Closter, there were a couple of deer hanging out on the sidewalk, right across from Dukes Lumber

You could spend time fishing.
You could spend days diving and just catching invasive species and help. So many different ones.

Closter is not far from where I am so I am sure they have the same problem we do. Where I am there are mostly females. Not too many males, but all the females wind up dropping new deer every spring so the males are really enjoying life I guess.
