Luck at poker.

Luck has absolutely nothing to do with poker, and they have a word for those that believe it does-- they call them "losers"...

Kenny Rogers had it right in "The Gambler"; every hand's a winner, and every hand's a loser... it's all in how you play it...

I say that poker is the science of studying your opponents...

not true at all. Also in that song is a term of "knowing when to hold-em and knowing when to fold em. Many players today are scared to death to be bluffed out of a pot and make stupid call after stupid call and many times pull a card out of their butt and win the hand. The WSOP is the perfect example. A few years ago Chris Moneymake had hand after hand that he should have been beat on. The other player had him nutted on the turn and Chris had to make a decision whether to call or lay it down. A good poker player 10 times out of 10 would lay the hands down rather than risking his entire stack. Chris time after time would risk his stack knowing he had the losing hand and hoping for the best. That entire tournament he hit the miracle card on the river to win the hand. It was scary. There was a lot more luck in that play than skill.

and Low limit poker, please, nothing but luck. It is a show down game. Very little skill involved.

I would much rather be lucky in poker than good. Being good has cost me a lot of money. There is a reason they call them donkeys.

I do understand what you are saying and I agree because I work with a guy who is great at poker whether he has a hand or not. I'm talking about luck, as in facing guys who actually know how to play. I can't tell you how many times I've been called by someone who should fold and they suck out on the river card.

The operative word there being "stupid"...

Texas Hold 'Em is a parlor game, not poker...

Poker is exclusively limited to the following games, or I'm not playing:

Five card draw, "guts" to open...

Five card stud, first card down...

Seven card stud...

If pushed, I will accept five card stud, first and last card down, but I don't really like the game... and as soon as you start talkin' wild cards, I start talkin' deal me out...

A poker game is always five players minimum, never more than six...

When you stick to those games, with practice they become games of skill, not games of chance... if you can read your opponents, that's the key to the whole thing...

Testosterone does not factor in, EVER... drinking and drugs do not mix... poker requires a clear head, and a mind for numbers...

If you have both, though, it's pretty hard not to win... the only real suspense is how much...

Yes sir, in a younger day I supplemented my income at a poker table or two... I've always been real good with all kinds of card games...

Nonsense.

I don't care how good you can read an opponent, I don't care how good you are at bluffing.

Sometimes luck does indeed come into play at times. A guy could have a terrible hand, be bluffing, the other guy could know he is bluffing, but the poor player keeps going and lucks out at the river and beats the other guy.

I have seen it every time and it had nothing to do with skill and was all luck because the guy should not have been in the hand in the first place but was just reaching and hoping a card would fall.

I Wish:

I lived in less pain

I'd had a video camera when my kids where younger, so many memories.

I wish every child knew what it felt like to be loved by their parents.

I wish the true hero's of our country (Military, Police, Fire and rescue) were looked up to like our athletes are.

I wish all the people in our country who constantly bash our country could spend a year in one of the many countries that don't ahve the freedoms we have, maybe they would appreicate what they do have more.
