How the Cowboys' offense just got creative; Dak Prescott doesn't look like a fluke

When the offense looks like it currently does, you shake your head a bit. Remember, this is a rookie quarterback and a rookie running back. This is supposed to come with some considerable growing pains and speed bumps.

They may still arrive around the next turn, but for now, if you had to evaluate the offense based on three games, you would point out that this rookie quarterback has not thrown an interception while leading the NFL in third-down efficiency. They are moving the chains better than any offense in football and still not turning the ball over or taking sacks. That is a remarkable trick.

Through three weeks, the Cowboys' offense is in the top half of the league in every single category and in the top five in many of them. They are staying ahead of the chains and keeping themselves in proper down-and-distance situations.

I am constantly getting questions like, "Is Dak Prescott's performance sustainable?" The answer is that surely he is going to have some bad weeks -- every quarterback does. But have the Cowboys' offensive minds altered their approach to the attack because, instead of having a star, veteran quarterback who does certain things well and other things that must be avoided (for his health), they have a rookie quarterback who can put you in so many personnel binds because of his combination of passing, running and frankly, a sturdiness that allows for a few more risks?

I think we can all agree that the coaches got a lot more creative all of a sudden once they had a backup QB who could play. Clearly that training is really starting to pay off.
Amazingly better players make better plays. Makes coaching an easier proposition for sure but it takes both.
If we are successful there will be plenty of back slaps for all... Surely right?

It's so nice to see some help for the players in this offense. I just hope Tony sees some creative play design.

Yes me too.
But, One of the takes from reading this for me was that because of dak's strength mobility and general ruggedness there are more options available for linehan

Some things open and others are less open. Dak needs to grow before they give him a lot more.....and I mean a lot. His own inexperience and knowledge of that inexperience will make Dak less likely to throw into places Romo would. Kudos to Dak for appearing to know this already.

They got a lot more creative after the Giants game when the media was starting to turn on Garrett and openly question some of the play calls and their inability to get the ball to their #1 WR. On one the first pass plays (if not the first) against the Skins, Dez went in motion and Dak hit him in the middle of the field for a good gain. And they kept trying to get freed up throughout the game. You can thank Jerry for telling Garrett what to do.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. They got more creative in the wins, and it was just in the loss where they weren't creative. I'd forgotten that they didn't move Dez around in that Giants game except for that one play from the slot where he dropped the TD.

Either way, it's just great that Jerry or whoever figured out what to do in time for the team to start winning once Dak Prescott got here.

Every week they keep adding to Daks repertoire and I think credit goes to Linehan.

They are still making a few bad play calls. Like all the runs that have gone for 1 yard or less and any pass that doesn't get a first down.
Hopefully they will figure it out.
