Sturm is rightly critical of JG's continued issue of going back to pass, time after time, when it isn't needed.

I kept saying during the game, WHY are they taking Zeke out of the game on 3rd and 2 or 3rd and 3 and going empty backfield? We did that repeatedly. INCLUDING the failed 3rd and 3 after the spike to kill the clock.

They just didn't need to run it there. 2nd and 2. Just run Zeke for another 5-6 yards, get another first down.

Having said that, it was an incredible play by Hyde.

That was film study and preparation by the GB coaches. Hyde guessed right, the WR screen is coming and if Dak throws it, I'm gonna be able to jump it. And boy did it work. You watch the replay in slow motion, as soon as the ball is snapped, he goes straight to where the ball will be because he's watched the film.

Early AND late Linehan/Garrett kept making decisions to go to the pass on 3rd and short.

We had around 48 seconds and the NFL's #1 RB and decided to go empty backfield on a slant to Dez. I watched that play unfold in sheer disbelief.

You have a timeout, Garrett, what the hell are you doing? You spiked it to kill the clock and wasted the 1st down, Ok, water under the bridge. You got 7 yards on the sideline route to Beasley on 2nd down. Now it's 3rd down.

Even if you run the ball and don't get the 3 yards, you take TIME off the clock. Remember, Aaron Rodgers hit Cook on the sideline with just 3 seconds left. Another 5-6 seconds run off the clock on a Zeke run before GB called time out as we lined up for the FG would've left Rodgers no time to pull off those last second heroics.

After remembering those 90s teams with Emmitt, I was sure that they would attempt to run it with Elliot in that scenario. I still remember how they would run to place the kick closer and to a favorable location (hash mark) for the kick in those days. It's surprising how they keep taking their best weapon out of the game when the old cowboys teams would rely on a heavy dose of Emmitt.

This article is exactly right. Some posters here don't want to hear it, but Zeke is the engine for the offense. They got away from that and were rusty early on, so they ended up in a 21-3 hole that was too big to overcome.

Zeke is the MVP and I'm sorry, but if Romo saw those looks, we'd probably see a lot more deep passes based on 8 or 9 men in the box on even first down..

I think Green Bay having so many DBs hurt and out actually is an advantage for them.
Because of their injuries, opposing teams' eyes get big, thinking of all of the passing yards that they can accumulate throwing at their weakened secondary.
That plays right into their hands because the running game is abandoned and that's GB's real weakness.

Garrett and Linehan used the wrong gameplan and decided to get into a shootout when that's the worst thing you can do against Greenbay.
Zeke having only 10 carries at halftime and 22 carries total is absolutely a fireable offense.

I hate the empty sets on short yardage. Its so predicable.
I scream at the TV everytime.
They've been doing that for years with Romo also and actually was the play where he broke his collarbone on last year.

Garrett really doesn't want to be like the Boys of the 90s, he wants to pass.
If it wasn't for Romo's back injury and slow start in 2014, he probably wouldn't have discovered we had a run game to lean on.

We knew Murray was a special back the 1st season we had him and it wasn't until his last year that we featured him heavily.

To let GB know that Dallas IS going to throw the ball, silly pants. ;)

That completely baffled me.

Only thing I can come up with is that on third and short if no one is open then Dak can run...........I dunno.

Scoring drives
32 passes, 14 runs

Non-scoring drives
8 passes, 10 runs

That said, it makes no sense not to take advantage of the league's best run-blocking OL in short yardage.
