If Frederick makes his blocks.....supposed to be a cutoff reach block.....Then Randle isn't forced to bounce it outside. Randle would have gained 6 yards before even being touched if he cuts it up.. As bad as Free has been....Frederick sure hasn't been carrying his weight either. What is his excuse?....but to watch Doug Free get man handled by a guy 60lbs lighter than him is disgusting. He should be driving is *** 10 yards down field.
Parnell would have made this play. :)

Their entire defense reads zone right and they just react to it.

If we don't start keeping teams a little more honest it's going to be boom or bust all year in the run game.

BTW, what Doug Free did was fine. That is how zone blocking works. If you get beat outside you just kick them outside.

What you can't have is the DT getting that much penetration up field.

Martin has to get out on the linebacker so Frederick has to get his guy blocked by himself there.

DT alignment is part of the reason Frederick didn't get it blocked.

I guess this is the reason why the Cowboys went with two new fullbacks in the offseason till Jed Collins showed up out of shape(Guess) and Clutts became their best option at the time.

Yes, they can't know exactly where the DL will line up at he time the play Is called. The idea is that if the primary is not open, then there should be a cutback. There was a cutback open behind Fred but the guy that Free is blocking comes all the way around and gets Randle before he can cut back.

The OL has to maintain contact on the defender. He was intended to kick him outside he just can't let him come all the way back around. On some non Zone Stretch plays it is good to let the defender jump up-field on the outside and take himself out of the play, but on the Zone Stretch Free needs to prevent him from coming back around.

Martin has to get out on the linebacker so Frederick has to get his guy blocked by himself there.
Sometimes the Cowboys Guard will help block before going to the 2nd level and sometimes they don't. I don't know the exact decision criteria on that but you will see if you watch enough of these plays.

Last year they would sometimes run the Zone Stretch to the same side over and over with minimal gains. Then when the defense started cheating to that side, they would come back to other side with a power run for a big play.
They just didn't have enough runs in this game for that to work.

Once Tryon cut blocked... Gapping hole with Collins seal

Destroyed by Free

One of these days you will discuss the playside DT and not the backside cutoff. DT takes away the cutback. I know you don't get it but it's there just the same.

The cutback is an integral part of the Zone running scheme. They know that the reach block will not always work. They can't know exactly where the DT will lineup when the play is called. It only takes the DT lining up a few inches over to make the reach impossible.

The cutback was open behind Fred but the defender came around Free to get Randle.

IT was a tough block and he almost reached it. He just couldn't get any leverage going the other way. Solial does a great job coming off the ball and reading the play. It happens.

Maybe.....

But why is our ENTIRE line moving right except Free? If he moves the DE right, as designed then there is another gapping hole behind #70 seal block

Sorry this play starts & ends with Free getting nothing

Watch it again
