In a game where literally nothing else mattered, we thank the football gods for offering us one 6-play drive of Tony Romo to offer you this morning - because any and all other things in that game will be summarily dismissed.

The game happened. Stats were accumulated. In the words of Bob Knight, "Let's move on to something else, if in fact there is something else."

Well, there is coach.

Tony Romo played his first (sort of) meaningful football since Thanksgiving 2015. As I said yesterday, I don't really see the benefit of it all, beyond the idea of making everyone feel warm and fuzzy to see just six plays.

Zero plays would make sense if you felt like he was done here and you don't want to hurt value by playing him.

Twenty to thirty plays make sense if you wanted to sharpen him up against live-action (and potential contact) for either A) the possibility of playing in the post-season or B) enhancing his trade value by showing the league what he looks like.

But, six? That didn't make much sense.

It was a fun drive. I wish they had played Dak for the first qtr and Tony for the 2nd and we probably would have won the game. I hate losing to the Eagles and watching Sanchez was unbearable.

I agree about the disappointment in only seeing him out there for 6 plays.
Definitely didn't look like he had any rust

A good read, thanks as always Bob. I was working on a post that would have summed up that throw chart and some of Dak's tendencies. A league wide look would be very revealing about how to look at Dak compared to the league. It's amazing to me that they have not completed one pass deep over the middle all year. I agree with Bob in that Dak just doesn't make the risky throw over the middle.....is that good or bad? I think that in the playoffs we are going to need to threaten the deep middle to loosen up some defenses.

Six, to me, felt like the dipping of a toe into the water and then suggesting that we just got our toe wet, so let's not risk an entire foot for fear of drowning.
Completely agree with this.

It's still funny to me that there are people who thought they would derail their "magical" season had they brought a "rusty" Tony back against the 1-15 Browns.

I seriously think it all came down to the team deciding to just try and trade him next year.

Hot hand, chemistry, blah blah blah is a bunch of hooey. Jerry realized a new name will sell more jerseys and that they can prob get a pick of 2 for tony.

Came down to $$$ as always imo.

That chart is great.

I think it would be similar in 2014 with Romo at QB.

Romo definitely showed the doubters that he still has some football left in him.

Dak has been great, but he has never had that much command of the offense.

He will, eventually, but he's just not where Tony is between the shoulders. The way Tony played on just that one drive was masterful.

Those six plays certainly makes sense from a strategic viewpoint. Any team we get in the playoffs now has to give some serious consideration to spend practice time preparing for the possibility that Tony might be put into the game at any time to torch their D with the kind of downfield throws he's been making for years. He's a weapon, and the Cowboys can deploy him any time they feel like it.

I think it might have had more to do with Sanchez then Romo. I think the staff wanted to see if he was worth keeping. If Sanchez would have played decent and won the game, its a complete no brianer to dump Romo. Absorb the cap hit over 2 years and u have a decent backup. But he played like soft baby poo, now the organization knows 100% if they decide to part ways with Romo it means finding a new backup as well.

And let's not understate how incredible THAT is. The guy has been injured for the better part of two years, got virtually no reps in practice nor ANY game time. And then comes out and slices up the Eagles like he has been there all year. Who comes in completely cold and does that?!

Hope we win it all, hope Dak shuts us Romo Lovers up and he plays great on our way to the Lombardy trophy, I really do, saying that I still feel we will need to be more explosive vs a team like the Packers, Falcons and Patriots and that comes from a better passing game, that's where Romo usually excels.
I also know Tony won't play unless something happens to Dak, nobody want's that, so, common Dak, let's go get it.
