Good stuff. I haven't been a huge fan of Showers in his limited play, because a lot of what he does well is from the dual-threat handbook or is running through a 3rd string defense when he doesn't get the pass off for whatever reason (not always his fault, of course). But it's encouraging to see that staring down the WRs on tough technical throws was one of his reported issues here, as that's something you'd think he could reasonably improve upon after a full offseason with the team.

I can honestly say I knew nothing of Showers until an acquaintance in the Cowboys office mentioned the coaches thought he had something. This was back in December.

From what I understand, he is not considered a starting-quality QB but they like his backup potential. I think Prescott will get every opportunity to earn the backup role (if they do not get a vet) but I think he is major project right now.

THANK YOU SIR!

So thankful for having your insights on site again...

Mobility, vertical passing...and accurate. He needs much much more time on carpet. Thanks.

Can't wait for your analysis of the current group in the defensive line. They have some players with great physical abilities in the mix this season. Then, the injuries are short termed in appearance, generally. I'm rooting for Irving, and eventually, a rehabbed Gregory. Lawrence already fits the bill for this fan.

I was a fan on day one & saw a future HOFer! LOL JK.

I do remember thinking "man this kid has some pop & wiggle" when I saw him last year though. I'm elated that they've been patient enough to give him more time to shine. He's a definite candidate for Bleu's Pets.

He deserves the shot. And he's fun to watch on the move, for sure. I do like what he and Dak potentially bring to the table. It's just so expensive to give these long shots snaps.

How huge would it be if one of them hit, though?

It's an offseason article about the upside of a QB3/QB4 candidate. Of course it's grasping at straws.

But that's the only thing that's fun about camp and preseason: getting to see if any of the long shots pay off. Every now and then, you actually do get your hands on a straw. I think Andy Jones is going to be a legit NFL player coming out of this camp, for example.

lol, I see Lawrence, Irving, Russell, Tapper, Mayowa...as an upcoming Seattle defensive line, when added to Thornton, Crawford, and Collins.

Hmm. I looked there and saw nothing at all from him.

We will get plenty of he and Dak in the PS.

However I watched plenty of him at UTep (not a fan of the team) and he was horrible. I just can't see the lights coming on in pro football if they didn't at UTep. I hope I'm wrong, but I still can't see JG and company changing anything for any non pocket passer. In fact I'm not sure they even know how to!

With the shortage of QBs coming out of college, having several of these running type QBs on the roster may be the answer. There is an over abundance of these types of QBs available every year and their style of play insures injuries. When one goes down, put in another one. It would definitely make defenses have to prepare more and finding QBs would be easy. Of course the offense would have to be adapted to fit this style of play and the passing game would not be that good, but it might be just good enough to work.

Thanks. His latest post is April, though. Nothing since 4/28.

I hope Gregory gets himself clean, but I could never trust him enough to believe signing him long term would be a good idea.

Also fwiw, I think he does not play this year. He's going to be suspended at minimum 10 games, assuming the NFL doesn't make him serve both suspensions and it looks like he won't be at camp, meaning he won't really be in football shape when ever he finishes in rehab, so I don't see it being worth it to use him when he showed very little on the field last year.
