Thanks again, Bob. 12th in the league in sacks is certainly an eye-opener. And while you mentioned it in passing, you might have made heavier weather of them ranking 5th in the league in fourth-quarter sacks. As I'm sure you know, there's a guy who knew a thing or two about championship football who was famous for saying "The most important thing in football is a fourth-quarter pass rush." His name, of course, was Bill Walsh.

A starting QB and a game-changing RB are impact finds, but so are pass rushers and cover corners who can play both inside and outside and force the run. And if Dallas makes it to the SB, Collins, Irving, Mayowa and Brown are going to play huge parts. Is it coincidence that sacks go up when Irving gets more minutes, guys get hurt and the Cowboys start using the 32 package more?

The play by Irving that I thought was the most athletic was on Staffords roll out to his right when he pumped a few times and Irving did not fall for it. He kept pursuing while making sure he had no place to throw or run over or around him.

This kid can be a stud if he's not already. Just the piece we needed to bring us number 6 with this team. I'm so glade he's earned more pt.

Gregory is going to be a monster if he can get past his off field issues. The kid had a bad play in the first quarter on a run play but was solid the rest of the night. He got some pressure and made some nice plays in the running game. All of this without training camp and little practice time.

I'm mad that the NFL punishes this kid with the same broad strokes that they punish Hardy. The kid has bipolar and Marijuana apparently helps him. He's not a bad kid. He doesn't beat women, he doesn't go to clubs and get into fights.

Sorry. Rant over.

If Gregory pans out, Irving continues his domination, Mayowa and Collind continues to improve and Lawrence comes back, this team is well on the way to a very solid line. Then we can concentrate on defensive backs and line backers.

Irving is already well on his way to being a monster. Gregory's a long-shot, given his issues (I agree with your rant, but rules are rules, unfortunately), but I agree he'll be a monster if he can get those issues sorted.

It's easy to forget that J. Smith will contribute significantly to the pass rush too, if he comes back as good as new.

Damn! If we can add a consistent pass rush, from young homegrown talent, to this offense this really does begin to look like a budding dynasty.

Defensive splash plays.

1. LB Sean Lee 26.0
2. DE David Irving 25.5
3. DT Terrell McClain 17.0
3. DE Tyrone Crawford 17.0
5. FS Byron Jones 15.5
6. DT Cedric Thornton 14.5
7. DE Benson Mayowa 14.0
8. CB Brandon Carr 13.5
9. CB Morris Claiborne 13.0
10. DT Maliek Collins 12.5

I love seeing six DL in the top ten in this category.

Amazing production from David Irving, he's a freak.

Solid impacts from Terrell McClain, Tyrone Crawford, Cedric Thornton and Maliek Collins.

Benson Mayowa is also surging.

All should return next season except McClain, an unrestricted free agent I don't see getting re-signed.

Continued growth from Thornton, Collins and Mayowa will account for, and possibly surpass, the plays lost with McClain's departure.

I wish we could count on adding Randy Gregory next Fall, but it's imperative to build next year's roster as if the young pass rusher won't be available.
