Sturm on Jaylon Smith

i love Sturms work but he has always been down on Jaylon i noticed from the beginning .being a reader of his blog for years and a fan of Jaylon
i understand the different reasons people have for hating the pick, you are entitled to your opinion sure
but put me down as the optimist he will play well this year
yeah he was bad but i believe he will be much improved
still need lb help though and they really need Lees successor whoever thats going to be because without him its yakety sax time

Sturm is generally good; however like many media types that follow the draft, he will tend to criticize a player if he was against the pick from the beginning.
was just posting this
he hates the pick from day 1

:hammer:

No no sturm and vela are plain wrong
i wouldnt say they are wrong definitely not
but if you dont like a player (and this board is crawling with it)
people will be more critical
the contract is signed the best that can happen is that he makes more strides
it is accepted that by year X that so and so player will have some light turn on in their head and they will "break out"
we see players turn into pro bowlers all the time when its time for a new contract
i dont think its time to bury Jaylon

Completely agree with all that.
LB has a lot of question marks.

But Dallas played 2 LB 67%~ of the time in 2017 and may play even more now that they have a young box safety in Frazier getting regular snaps.
Dallas has:
Will: Lee/Thomas
Mike: Jaylon/DamienW
part-time Sam: Wilson

So they've already got 4 guys playing really 2 spots.
Do we really want 6 quality LB to play 2 spots?

Or we do we need a 3rd starting caliber guy and then roll with that?
Yeah, I don't get why people are calling for us to treat LB like we did DBs in 2017. We basically need a future replacement for Lee, and that can be either drafting a WLB and keeping Smith at MLB going forward, or drafting a MLB and start transitioning Jaylon outside.

If we draft a versatile guy, I can honestly see us going light at LB and keeping an extra WR and TE for special team duties, because any LB we draft past the 3rd round is most likely going to be doing very little in the base defense and only playing STs.

Goal of this draft needs to be drafting this guy. They traded up for that jag claiborne, they can trade up for this beast.
Not the guy who is going to help in the area we need the most improvement and that's run defense. Gets easily washed out of plays run at him and destroyed ny blockers. Is a pure freelance artist who runs to.the ball in space. I love him but he is a will and we need a guy who can hold up.and play mike.

Right, that is why Jaylon Stumpy McPirate got 81 tackles by running onto the field with his peg leg and hook for a hand. As a rookie.

And the LB Coach that sent him out there just got hired as an NFL Defensive Coordinator, but you are the guy with the stunning insights to see it all clearly.

Got it.
You think the LB coach decides who is going to play?

Dear Lord you might be dumber than I thought.

When was the last time you examined Jaylon's leg?
You are talking as much out of your behind as people saying he will be great this year.
The guy played a lot of snaps last year and made it through the season.
Any player would be expected to improve from their initial NFL playing time.
Has there been a single person in the world that has definitely said JS will play without a brace this year?

Maybe if you close your eyes and pray to God, you can will it to happen.

I feel you but we need dline help. I think we can get linebacker play later in the draft. I like Fred warner in round 4 and prob a guy in round 5/6 that’s a run stopper

Whatever you think of Jaylon’s potential based on what we’ve seen so far, it’s a mistake to rely entirely on him as a starter.
You can hope and maybe expect improvement, but he was tragic as a full-time starter/player.
He got tackles, but... you saw it. I saw it. We all saw it. It would be 8 yards downfield on a run. It would be him tackling in a scrum after not being able to cover a TE, or WR, or RB, or anybody.

I don't know if he got better, later, because he actually got better, or if they got Hitch and Lee back and asked him to do the ismple things that wold work for him.

I just don't know... I have lots of hope, but nothing to count on.

Has there been one who swore he would?
No one knows, which is the point.
No matter how hard you try to hate on the kid he has exceed expectations at every turn.
I'd say safe money is on him continuing to do so, even if he is never a great LB.

If you said he'd play 16 games last year then maybe you can talk about this.
If not then you had no clue and still have no clue.
You are posting with butthurt feelings against a guy battling long odds to succeed.
You might wanna seek help for that.

You are correct. I must've confused that with the ed block award he got. Either way I do agree that we need LBs. If we can go into the season with Jaylon being the weak link of the lb corp instead of the cornerstone then we'll be good. That goes for Sean Lee too. They both can be outstanding but I do not want to bet the season on either of the two's health.
Peter King gave him his player of the week award after he had a 3 tackle game.

This hasn't really been a Marinelli defense.
At all.
Rod cares about his DL and that's all he truly cares about.
Richard is here to define the coverages and schemes for that.
Eferblus before did a lot of scheming as well.

The hate on Rod stuff is goofy. He isn't Kiffen.
He doesn't value 1T. Yes, that's correct and about the only complaint that is genuine.
The rest is just like saying Jerry Jones drafts for us...l.
Do you think Marinelli has no fault for the defensive failures? Aaron Rodgers was laughing at the defensive calls during the playoff game against Marinelli's defense. That is embarrassing.

Why is this news? I've been saying this for the past few months, Smith didn't get better, he was just on the field less.

Hot damn right. Mary Nelly just simply cannot figure out Rodgers and he happens to be a perrenial obstacle, in the NFC.
That's kind of a slight problem.
