Sturm: Tony Romo's Back May Explain Everything

Romo was pretty cautious this year. If this is the Romo we are going to see from here on out, he's no better than Orton. The offensive play was pretty similar for both QB's. When I say this, I am not bashing on Romo nor am I upgrading Orton. The real issue is the coaching behind our offense. A healthy Romo with no back issues can be successful in spite of JG. That's the big question...is Romo going to get back to that? Too many years with a bad Oline and him getting killed out there could possibly have ended his career this year.
you really are blind if you cannot see that even a Romo playing it safe is much better than healthy normal Orton

Brady was drafted and Romo wasn't. If being an undrafted free agent were to light a fire then we'd see more of them on the field having an impact that Romo has. This team has failed in those big games. That wasn't just Romo.

I am looking at comparable situations. You really do not expect anything from someone drafted in the 6th rd, just like you don't really expect anything from an undrafted FA. I also compared Romo sitting for a couple years to McNair sitting for a couple years, the difference was, one was a 1st rder I think. Maybe Romo had the talent to succeed. Maybe because he was at a small school was the reason he went undrafted. Three HCs saw something in him, Parcells, Shanahan(who wanted to sign him as a Undrafted FA), and Payton wanted to trade for him.

Easy, I'm typically not a fan of homers and most of the time that is what he is. Only time he does an article like this is when the evidence is just so overwhelming he just doesn't have a choice. Like the last game of the 2012 season.

really ironic since most would not be a fan of a hater like you

Well, no question Bob Sturm reads this forum. He pieced together our information quite nicely :) Great structure (informative/researched) with comprehensive writing to make complex themes easy to digest while proving his position/perspective. The offense was modified (no deep balls) to account for this unfortunate circumstance and a pass heavy conservative offensive game plan took precedent. I still question why Murray/Rbs weren't used more when proving effective...

He hurt his ribs against NY game one. It was reported that his ribs were finally 100% against Denver. He took some big hits after that and I fully believe the back was a compensation injury from protecting his ribs.

Romo healthy is our only realistic shot in the next 4 seasons(2 for Romo [contract makes this meaningless to argue] and 2 to rebuild another QB if need be). Hope that back is not the same issue next season but those issues never truly seem to go away...

I'm positive his back has hurt him most of the year. He was reluctant to throw deep All YEAR. Not just a couple games. That said, he wasn't the BIG problem this year. We flat out dont have the talent.

But Tony's best days are well behind him. His days playing at a relatively high level might be over as well. Need to find our next qb. But Jerry is too stupid to think ahead. He won't do it until romo is completely done.

Sturm is so good. Right or wrong, he's fun to read.

Definitely one of the best sports writers out there who shows passion in his profession; makes DFW media look like lazy douches. Definite reader of this forum.

Get surgery, come out of it with a new contract. Jerry's Cowboy Way. The Romo contract extension may be the worst of Jerry's bad contracts and that is really saying something. Of course he doesn't think drafting a new QB is a priority. He is married to a hobbled one that we are going to have to start.

When the Titanic was sinking, some people were actually playing violins and just couldn't believe what was happening.
To put it another way, there are 5 teams still alive in the playoffs with offenses that scored fewer points per drive than Dallas. There are 5 QB still in the playoffs who threw fewer touchdown passes than Romo this year, and 4 QB who threw more INT than Romo.

Worried about yards per attempt? There are 3 QB still alive in the playoffs whose YPA was lower than Romo's this year.

Sorta hints (in my mind) that possibly that back surgery Romo had prior to training camp was not just some simple cyst removal -- that it might be related to the surgery he had again late in the season.

I hope not.

Babe said it was no cyst in fact he said they might as well have called it a pregnancy.

Babe has also been saying we may have seen the last of romo essentially because of the nature of these surgeries.

Its actually new contract, then get surgery. Romo signed in March and got operated in April, right? Did Jerry have no clue Romo had a cyst issue? Or did he know and not think it was a big deal? Screwed either way. UGH.

Great read. And i think he is on the money with this article. Romo just looks scared. Maybe he knew he wasnt right with his back but didnt express it fully to trainers because of the contract he just got. But i wouldve rather had him be honest and get this surgery earlier then now. The defense was bad this team was .500, get yourself right. He let it be known after he got hurt that he was tweeked it earlier. Then did it again that night. Why risk more harm playing? Especially a back problem. Especially with a contract that can cripple this team if ur not the same after. Thats the type of selfish player Romo is.

Romo's problem is that he reads every one of his clippings. You can tell what the media and fans say about him affects him. Mentally weak. This further makes me wish Jerry would demand Romo take a pay cut.

I guess we'll know for sure in April.

Homer? The man has a giant tattoo of Green Bay's logo. He's a Wisconsin native and huge Packers fan.
