Styles vs Parsons

Nobody convinced anybody parsons wasn’t an off ball LB before the Cowboys got him. Dallas started him as an off ball LB his first game in the nfl

I only say this because to this day people try to pretend that Dallas knew what they were getting in parsons. That’s not true.

Parsons was the far more physical player and his speed was truly elite.

As I have been saying , Styles is very similar to Lve. Problem is, he was picked in the mid 1st rd, not in the top 10
This...plus compare Parsons production in less games.

Yes, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys viewed Micah Parsons primarily as an off-ball linebacker during the 2021 NFL Draft, though they valued his versatility to play multiple roles.

Key Details regarding the 2021 Draft:
  • Best Defensive Player: Jones famously stated they believed Parsons was the "best defensive player in the draft" after missing out on cornerbacks Patrick Surtain II and Jaycee Horn.
  • Role Designation: While the team acknowledged he was a "multi-positional player" who could rush the passer (on-ball) and play off-ball, they drafted him to fill a glaring need at linebacker, not strictly as an edge rusher.
  • Uncertainty: His immediate and record-breaking success as an edge rusher with the Cowboys was not the primary expectation during the draft; he was largely considered a raw pass rusher at that time.
  • Draft Philosophy: The Cowboys viewed him as an elite linebacker who could blitz, rather than a full-time edge rusher, notes.

Dan Quinn, then-Cowboys defensive coordinator, is credited with maximizing Parsons' ability to rush the passer after injuries to other players forced him into that role early in his rookie season, transitioning him from a pure off-ball linebacke

Remember, Parsons was an off-ball LBer until Quinn and scouts convinced Jerry he was not (Jerry's words)

Wow. I just posted this comparison yesterday …
10 yard split goes to Styles 1.56 vs Parsons 1.59
Vert Styles 43.5 at 6’5 vs 34 at 6’3
I think as an edge that’s a big difference in favor of Styles.

I’m also completely bias since I want Dallas to win the trade

Following the 2021 NFL Draft, then-Cowboys DC Dan Quinn envisioned Micah Parsons as a versatile, "hybrid" defender rather than just an off-ball linebacker, utilizing his elite speed primarily for pass-rushing. Quinn tailored the role to maximize Parsons' impact as an edge rusher and linebacker, resulting in a Defensive Rookie of the Year campaign

Parson was recruited as an edge rusher and Penn State moved him to LB. Styles was a S before 2024. They arent comparable

I’m willing to trade up to ensure we get one of the OSU guys…but we can’t give both firsts for just one pick. Has to be 12+20 for say 6+39 or something like that. Otherwise will be a long day 1 and day 2.

Styles is fast, but he's not Parsons fast, that's just a different level. There probably aren't five NFL players with Micah's speed at 240+ lbs, especially with the speed he can create in his first three steps.

Rookie LVE isn't a bad comp for Styles. Same kind of coverage chops and same kind of elite-elite tackling. Rookie LVE was a unicorn when it came to stopping guys one on one in space.

For what it’s worth, Micah’s 40 time of 4.36 was at Penn States pro day and Styles’ time of 4.46 was at the combine. If you add a little time to Micah’s pro day time, their speed is very close to the same.

* Note: I’m pretty sure Micah’s official 40 time from his pro day was 4.38, not 4.36. Not that it really matters…

I think one of the most important drill that they time is the 3 cone drill. Micah’s time is better than Styles, but not a lot better. That makes sense with Micah being shorter. His time should be a little better.

Overall, not that different in testing but I don’t think Styles can just walk in and be a 10 sack guy in his rookie season like Parsons did. Styles very well could be the better ILB between the two though.

I’d give Styles some chances to rush the passer though, if he comes to Dallas. He might be better than people think.

Agreed. They’re physically similar but their experience is different. Parsons was one of the best DE’s in the state of Pennsylvania in high school. Which yeah it’s high school but the point is he was an elite edge rusher at that level and he was a 5 star recruit going into college for his pass rushing ability.

Yep, then Penn State went full re-tard and moved him off of the DE spot.

Plus no one can be as selfish as Parsons.

Here are their college stats.........let me say, Parsons as a pass rusher is an outlier. To say otherwise is silly, he's that good but Styles has hybrid potential to play several roles in CP scheme IMO. Notice he played safety and LBer two years, both at a high level. Notice the 100 tackles last year, yet his strength is suppose to be his coverage ability. Correct me if I'm wrong but CP can play him

**MLBer
**OLber
**Slot
**SS
**Big nickel
Can move him around to play any of the above positions presnap or postsnap.......

Did I say his leadership/character is off the chart.........these experts/teams proping up some player for the say of name. I'm 100% sure they have broken down everyone of his college plays from snap to whistle. It's what you do if you're making a multi-million dollar investment.
