Successful favorite book-to-movie adaptations

I must be the only person who still hasn't read the book. I enjoyed the movies though.
Read The Hobbit first. You will not regret reading all 4 books.

The Silence of The Lambs.....an alltime classic 'thriller' movie.

But keep in mind The Hobbit was intended as a children's book and LOTR as an "adult" book.

Thanks for the heads up.

Sad to say i haven't had much time to read fiction in the last 5-8 years. During that time, I had to read about three books per week for school and the last thing i wanted to do was pick up another book when i had whatever little free time i had.

"Fight Club"

The author has said in the past that he liked the movie better than his own book.

Hamlet while sort of Strange Brew is Hamlet with a bad twist and different ending  but the story plot is basically Hamlet.

Lord of the Rings some of the movies I like I never read the books so I have no clue.

Count of Monte Cristo the 2 hour movie sucked but I caught a Count Monte Cristo mini series made in France on Bravo I did not get to watch all 4 of them but I caught 1 and a half episodes and it was the best adaptation I have seen of the book. Gerard Depardieu is the lead role of Edmund Dantes (Just to tell you how much I like this book I have read it twice including when I was 15)

Now I can go on a triad off horrible book translation :bang2::bang2:

So I found very few books to movie translations

Shogun

Lonesome Dove

Lord of the Rings series, in particular Fellowship of the Ring.

The Green Mile

I was just going to post this!

The movie followed the book to a tee!!

I'm just hoping for good adaptations someday for Without Remorse and Rainbow Six.

And I'm hopeful for a good HBO series for the Song of Fire and Ice series.

None of you tough guys probably read this book, but the adaptation of Bridges of Madison County was wonderful.

I read that book and saw the movie! Great movie...

Barry Lyndon.
Silence of the Lambs.
To Kill A Mockingbird.
I don't know successful either are considered, but I love the Shining,
book and movie.

And then there are the wildly popular books that bombed as movies: Bonfire of the Vanities, Da Vinci Code, etc.
