Sudden death OT....

Love sudden death and hate that college crap. If your defense can't stop them you don't deserve to win.

I agree, but when a TERRIBLE interference call changes the scope of the whole game that is when its not cool.

So giving it to a team that wins the toin coss is wrong while giving it the home no matter what is fair? If you give it to a team automatically why give it to the the team that already has home field advantage?

Yeah you should give your guest the choice.

I think the current OT rule is in place so the TV networks aren't saddled with games that could go on indefinitely and cut too deeply into their other programming. If that's the case, keep sudden death for the regular season and use a different system for the playoffs, when much more is on the line and even non-NFL regulars will keep watching.

And I think the current system is unfair to the coin-toss loser. A missed tackle on the kickoff that gets the receiving team close to FG range isn't much football. At least alter the rule to require a TD to end the overtime period.

if the roles were reversed, would changing from some different overtime system to a sudden death format make it better? Hell no people would be crying about what we're crying about now. It wouldn't make the game any better and it would be shot down in a heartbeat.

switching to a equal possession format makes the game better, each team gets their shot, and you end all of this "they didn't even touch the ball" nonsense.

Why not just lineup and do penalty kicks from the 40 yard line if we're going to leave it up to chance. Even that would be better than what it is now.

Anything would be better than that college crap but I'd prefer it the way it is.

preach it, Yeagerbomb. that crappy college OT seems like something some kids made up while playing a game of backyard football.

At the very least there are no more ties in college football. I don't think the system is all that great but before they put in overtime there were way too many tie games. As a fan and even when I played sports a tie sucked it is like a story that has no ending.

The game is not decided by the coin toss it is decided by the play on the field.

Yep

And if one team makes that play on the field and not a boneheaded decision. Maybe there is no OT.

OT is there for a reason. For teams to AVOID it and win in the 60mins of the game.

True. I also think winning the toss is far from some guaranteed win. The receiving team could fumble the ball in OT and give it up in close FG range and it has happened. Getting the kickoff ensures you get the 1st opportunity other than that it does not ensure you that you will move the ball down the field get into FG range then make the FG. There is no system you can put into place without some fault to it.

60% chance of losing the moment you lose the coin toss to start OT. But I guess I'm a whiner for not being happy with a coin toss creating a 20% swing in the win probability.

I didn't see a thread like this after the Packers-Cards game that went into overtime and the team that won the coin toss(Packers) lost that game.
there's been plenty of these threads through the years. Any defense that gives up 500 yards of offense should have to get on the damn field in overtime.

How about the owners have to race from endzone to endzone. While they are running each team standing on the sidelines throw footballs tyring to knock the opposing owner to the ground.

First owner to reach the endzone wins the game for his or her team.;)

We'd win every OT. I suspect Jerry has George Bush-esque reflexes.

yeah i'm sure from people like you who like that crappy college OT. that defense that gave up 500 yards also forced 6 or 7 turnovers

Play two 7:30 minute periods. If there is a winner after the first period, the game is over. The game can't go longer than the 15 mins already alotted for overtime, but it most likely will end before the first 7:30 is over and each team will likely get a possession.
