Yes, like Hostile said, that is a very good post Donkey Punch.

They have been lit up pretty good against above average QBs that run pretty salty offenses.

They hold Tampa Bay to single digit points and now everyone says the Steve Spagnuolo Defense is coming around.

Joey Galloway hurt his shoulder in that game and he is their only threat deep. And then the Cowboys hold Jeff Garcia to something like a 0.0 Quarterback Rating back in 2004 when he was with Cleveland?

I am still waiting for someone to show me a signature win by the Giants against a good team and please dont say the Bucs.

The Giants only have 3 db's for this game.. this is the weakness that needs to be attacked

Which actually says alot about their 'vaunted' pass rush.
Exactly. For their pass rush to really be disruptive they need to be facing mediocre passing attacks. Against teams like that they can cause some havoc and balloon some stats and look like a fearsome obstacle.

Or a insanely stationary Quarterback, like we had last year :D .

Totally agree with this post. I posted something similar in the thread about 2 Giant CB's out.

I really think that Hoyte is still playing with weakness in that neck/shoulder and that his play has been a bit of a downgrade from Cricket. In addition our fullback is NOT a threat to catch any passes or even run the ball a couple of times, so he's purely a blocker.

I think both Julius and Barber are running better when we spread the field with TE's and WR's.

We should try and pick on and test the Giant Secondary, even if TO is limited. Spread the field. Our oline will have a bit easier a time, and their will be less 8 men in the box situations because the Giants are already thin back in secondary.

This is why if Terry Glenn can catch a ball or two early, further than 4 yards down the field, it will give the GMen something to think about. His speed could really create some space for all our offensive weapons. Give Romo some time early and get some running lanes, by spreading out Giants on D.

Good post and good strategy. I don't want to see a repeat of the Seattle playoff game last year, where we didn't exploit a sitting duck secondary.

The Giants DBs are beat up. I would like to see us come out in a 3 WR set with Barber in the backfield and using Witten or Fasano as combination H-back and TE.

Put TO in the slot and Crayton & Glenn out wide. I don't think the Gaints have a prayer of covering TO in the slot.

As much as I like running with a lead FB I would scrap it except for goal line and short yardage situations. It comes down to this, who would I rather have on the field Hoyte or a 3rd WR? No contest. Give me the 3rd WR.

I believe TO in the slot makes Witten even more dangerous if the DBs also have to cover wide and deep.

I am one of the few left who still like Julius Jones, but I would use him so sparingly that he jersey might not need to be washed. Simply put, Barber could punish the Giants LBs given the fact they may have a lot of coverage assignments vs. Witten & Fasano. One extreme to the next. Wear them down and rub them out.

Hos...I could not agree more! This would give a completely different look and open lanes big time for Barber. There is no way they can stack the box if we go with 3 wides, plus Witten. Not to mention we can move Witten wide with TO, Glenn, Crayton...completely opening the inside for Barber to slice them up.

If we did this we would completely throw them off and hit their weakness right now.

Julius always seems to have some good runs against the Giants. So i wouldn’t just park him on the bench. But i would scrap the running backs taking turns each drive. In the last game we had success with the three tight end sets. And i think we will do some of that in this game. But in shotgun, with Owens, Glenn, Crayton, Witten and Barber in the backfield makes for an explosive combination.

Stretching the Giants laterally so they can't crowd the box will open huge holes for Barber and when they come to close them they will be vulnerable to him at full speed. That is why I said very little of Julius Jones. Meeting Barber at full speed cannot make anyone very happy.

I expect the same, but think about this from a Giants' perspective. Your corners are banged up, you have to expect the Cowboys to go three-wide and try to make a bad situation worse. How do you counter? Pass rush. The G-men are going to need to rely on their front four to get to Romo so that their DB's don't spend much time in coverage.

So I think this game may come down to the Cowboys O-Line verse the Giants front four. I hope Flo and Colombo are up to the challenge.

The spread types of formations seem to give both Julius and Barber better running lanes and options. Jones in particular isn't good in traffic and I don't think benefits from mediocre Fullback blocking. The more space the better for Jones to accelerate into. Easier for his vision and less chance of him running into blockers.

As for Barber, he can usually break a tackle or two, and if the receivers and te's are drawing defenders down the field, and Barber makes the first guy miss or cuts it back to the outside, he can get his 7-14 yard runs that really demoralize the defense.

I'd like to see a lot less FB against the Giants. 2 te's and lots of 3 WR's or even 4 wr sets. What are the Giants going to line up as DB's if we go 4 wide outs. With Glenn back we can do this. Hurd and Austin have showed enough easily to make this a problematic approach!

Spread the field. It will make it much more difficult for Gmen to come after Romo in disguise as well.

This is setting up a little like last year's game against Seattle - it's pretty obvious what we need to attack and last year we just refused to do it.

I'm hoping Redball and Wade watched last years playoff game and realize you win from here in out with guts and attacking. I think the only thing which can make us lose this Sunday is our own game plan - if we come out all tight and close to the vest like last year, the Giants have a chance. If we come out like we played all season, it's light's out.

Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.

When I wrote this I did not realize the Giants have only 3 healthy CBs. I just read that in another thread. We cannot, absolutely CANNOT fail to capitalize on that like last year against the Seahawks.

Who would like to see Barber absolutely truck one of their CBs into next week? I got my hand up.

I would send one WR deep every play. Even on runs. Shuttle Hurd and Miles in to go deep on a couple of plays if we have to. Make at least one guy out there cramp up and suck wind, then make him have to cover Terry Glenn on a fly. The only thing he'll be able to do is interfere and draw a flag.

Yep, absolutely Hostile!

I think you exploit their weakness, which in this case has also been a strength of our team this year. Now you add a Glenn.

We have a different type offense from Tampa Bay. Lets keep the Giants on their heals as you said. That's why I posted about the no-huddle too. I would do like you say and run a CB on the Giants down that field all game. Get them huffing and puffing. Do a little no huddle. Run Barber with his lethal stiff arm at them.

I know Romo has been improving as a pocket QB by leaps and bounds, but if we have to roll Romo out once in a while and use shotgun to give him that extra 1/2 second to make the deep threat a reality. I wouldn't mind seeing Romo run for a couple of yards early, something he avoided doing a lot this year. Show some new wrinkles, but things that we actually do well anyway. 2 minute drill mid or early in a quarter. QB roll out. 3 WR sets now that Glenn is back. Lots of 2 TE. Throw Barber in there first in the rotation, hehe, that would even be a change. Throw the ball to Julius, not as a check down but as a design. ETC.

This will be there for the taking with both backs. The Giants have to find a way to cover 3 WR down the field. That probably takes 5 guys, CBs manned up and S help over the top which leaves Witten matched up on the linebackers. If the Giants hope to stop the passing attack, they will have to generate pressure on Romo. That screams passes to the backs more than ever. A 20 yard pass or two will slow down that rush and allow Romo to pass to the open WR down the field. If McBriar has more than 3 punts this game I will be very surprised.

I'll tell you what I'd do just to screw with their minds. Line Julius up out wide as a WR and send him deep. Or send him in motion so they don't know if it is a handoff or reverse.

Make them run until they need Oxygen on the sidelines.

It might work the first time, but after that the Giants would line an offensive lineman across from him, cause the word on the street is Jones can't get past one.
