Sunday's priority was to avoid injury

If you wanted to avoid injury, you'd rest most of your starters. The truth is that this looks like the same undisciplined, clownish Cowboys of the past that usually seen a 1st or 2nd round playoff exit. We've been trending downwards with sloppy, undisciplined play and managed to pull a few victories off against mediocre teams. In the playoffs- it is back to back against the best teams in the league.

100% spot on! Too bad our GM is also so clueless and has been for 27+ years

Sorry, but OP's thinking on this makes no sense. You don't play your starters for the entire game not trying to win. This may have caused more harm than good.

So Dak playing almost the whole game and throwing 37 times means Dallas was playing to avoid injury and not win the game????

That is one of the dumbest things I ever heard considering if Dallas won and Philly lost Dallas wins the division and gets the #1 seed. If your BS theory was true why bother playing starters?????

People get dumber and dumber on here just to defend Dak's poor play.
The Cowboys Zone upgrade\new format will not prevent ill-thought-out or preposterous postings, unfortunately.

I guess that is why they played starters into the 4th quarter, right? Some of you people could talk yourself into anything. When all else fails turn to homer logic.

No, it doesn't make any sense. We played our starters to win the game. They Dak was awful. The WRs were not much better. The OL was bad.

Kellen Moore and MM should be embarrassed.
Good take. if we had come out got up a few scores with the starters, then went to backups and lost the game no big deal.

Even playing to not have injuries it was a comedy of turnovers, gimmie points, and ineptness on display.

Shhhhhhh!!!!! You'll give away our strategy! They were just playing like crap as a way to remind themselves of what  not to do, and also as a smokescreen to give the Bucs a false sense of security.

Shhhhhhh!!!!!

I suppose you're right about resting or even pulling the starters.........

NOT win.....pre-season mode. Never thought of this until my neighbor ( Eagle fan ) mentioned and it makes sense ( he made some good points ). Remember odds makers gave us only a 1% chance of getting the No. 1 seed and I think an 8% for No.2. In other words, there was almost no chance of the Giants and Cards winning. Here's the question he asked......what if both games were played at 1:00 instead 4:00 and we knew before the game they both won. How many starters do you think would have missed the game? Once it was clear during the week that the Giants were resting their starters vs Eagles A team the priority probably shifted from going all out to win vs avoiding injuries. Guess what, that's exactly the way we played....... does this make any sense.
No. Why? Go tackle someone at full speed. Now go run through someone at full speed. Ok, now tackle someone at half speed and go try and finally, go run at someone but brace for impact.

Full speed hurts a lot less than playing at half speed and avoid a hit/injury.

It feels like a rationalization for a poor performance. The 49ers were in a similar situation, needing a Giants win to have any shot at the 1 seed. They won 38-13.

They stunk up the field and don't need any excuses made for their lack of professionalism. DET belongs in the playoffs more than DAL.

You don't play people 4 quarters if you are trying to avoid injury. If you had no intention of winning, you should not be out there. The bigger picture should have been the priority!!!!!!!!!!!
