Sunlight causes glare on the videoboard so... the roof stays closed

So Jerry's trying to protect the fans from something they don't want protected from?

that is the way I view it.

Everyone in my section against atlanta and seattle couldnt believe the roof wasnt open, we all want it open.

I havent come across anyone yet who has been happy about the roof being closed.

70 degrees in Texas is pretty chilly.

The only thing I can think is watching his defense be too gassed to finish the giants game has spooked jerry and he doesnt want the players to get to hot in the sun or something.

i saw those glare theories put forth in a couple of newspaper articles
but those were nothing but speculation on the writers part.

i have been very happy with how the stadium has been set up for all the games except the Giants game. that night the doors and roof should have been closed , it would have been louder and more comfortable.

i think folks are just looking for something to bash Jerry about. There is plenty of other stuff to do that about, quit griping about the dern stadium.
i almost cant wait till next year when the stadium wont be NEW.

I think they are having the same problem at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indy. When the roof is open and they have a day game, you can hardly see parts of the field when it is being shown on television.

I understand some stadiums wanting to add a retractable roof so they can host other events, but I hate domed stadiums for football.

Actually, Texas Stadium was meant to have a completed roof.. The hole occured because they figured out the stadiums support was not strong enough to support a full roof over the stadium..

Well that was old Texas Stadium. The problem is millions of dollars appear to be wasted on making it a retractable roof.

I'm assuming Jerry has the final say on these matters, unless there's an unnamed stadium manager I haven't been made aware of. Even if the decision is based on someone else's suggestion, the buck stops with Jerry.

Now, sunlight might wash out the screen making it harder to see - very possible. I was at the game, and we wondered why it wasn't open, perhaps the rains from the previous days made them just plan to keep it closed.

I'll say this, if they open it during a game, someone needs to get on the stadium PA system and say:

"Commence primary ignition"

Maybe this was discussed this summer. But, your post beggers the question.... Is the Video Board waterproof? I mean if the roof is open, and a sudden downpour happens, is the "tV" fried? That would bite!:laugh2:

I think They probably are arbitrary as this is the first season in the stadium. There might have been a vague policy in place based on other retractable roof stadiums, but overall the decision is still probably up to debate on a per event basis.

Also, there is a stadium manager. Remember the DWI guy after the Tenn game?

The decision on the roof falls to Jerry and the Cowboys, same as with the Texans. The last few decisions on the roof have been determined days before the actual game, too.

I honestly don't have a problem with it either way. It wasn't bad when it was opened. It wasn't bad when it was closed. I do like the doors open when the weather is nice, but call me spoiled but if its 40 degrees out side, like at the final game in Texas Stadium I won't mind sitting in a heated venue.

The story I heard was they ran out of money to complete the roof.
