HH, I would listen to Zepp. He could easily be an Oklahoma homer and say Stoops is the second coming, but he doesn't, even as an Oklahoma fan.
Stoops first title run team is still questionable, IMO. It was either 17 of 22 or 18 or 22 starters for that squad were recruited by the previous coaching staff. Since Stoops has recruited his talent and coached them, they have fallen off quite a bit.
Also, how can anyone say Carroll has proven that he cannot coach at the NFL level? We could have said the same about Bill Belichick during his first tenure as an NFL coach, but then how could a once failed NFL HC go on to build a dynasty in New England?
But just a few guys I would consider IF Parcells were to leave...
Pete Carroll - For obvious reasons. If he were to come, hopefully he could convince Lane Kiffin (Monte Kiffin's son) to coach the offense as well. Lane is a VERY young coach (around 34 or 35, IIRC) who had learned from Norm Chow and this year the offense has not missed a beat. Lane could likely be the HC at USC if Carroll were to leave, but granted he will be talked about as a future NFL HC in the years to come.
Jerry Gray - Learned from Greg Williams and has put together very good defenses in Buffalo. Usually hear his name pop-up when a position pops open.
Dave McGinnis - This isn't the sexy pick. Some of you will probably say, 'what has this kid been smoking?' I suggest you read up on what not only other coaches, but players think about McGinnis. He will into the dark hole for every player and coach known to man in Arizona and failed, so what? Players and coaches love this guy and believe he will have success as a HC in the NFL. I'm just a little bit more inclinced to trust them.
Pat Hill - Love this guy. After the Cali schools as well as others rob California of it's talent, Hill brings in kids to Fresno and makes them into TRUE football players. Everytime I read an article about a Fresno player, they're wanting to play every top school in the country. Other schools are almost afraid to play Fresno because Hill has put a 'never say die' attitude in each and every player and coach at the University. Just take a look at the USC game earlier this year. While Fresno was severely outmatched, Fresno gave USC everything they wanted and then some. It isn't like this is just a one year thing either, Hill does this every year. I always love coaches who could make players run through walls for them.
Greg Williams - Obvious reasons as well here.
And last but not least....
Jimmy Johnson - It's weird that just a few weeks ago we were talking about the BS rumors with him coming back? It's also weird that now we find out their may be something to all that talk? I'm starting to see this rumor as 'where there is smoke, there is usually fire' train of thought.
