my offensive line mantra -
last year when flo went down and drew did his usual 2nd 1/2 freefall, we found ourselves at the end of the season not saying "wow, drew did his patented freefall we see year in and year out" but yet again, excuses shot out coaches/jjones faster than a "co-ed" political convention.
it was flo. we lost flo and the oline just couldn't go on without him. somewhere along the line flo went from average to above average for his entire career (some even wondering why bp gave him that much $$$) to the holy grail no line could do without. it wasn't that our line just sucked, no - it was flo and the hefty loss we took when he could no longer dominate the domination only he can dominate.
in the offseason we said goodbye to our hall of fame lock larry allen and suddenly flo, born the son of a poor sharecropper and was thrust into football greatness with a mild modesty, was going to get better, work to outsquat vinnie and that knee would do wonders. if flo could play his rehab just right, he would move on to be the 8th wonder of the world of football.
i wasn't buying the drama and hype (just typing it) and was pretty vocal about the overall state of our line and we'd better be serious in FA to make up for it cause the vaunted "return of flo" was not going to be enough to mend this broken line. and parcells didn't let us down.
well, unless you wanted to see the right moves. then oh yea, it sucked.
kozer and fabini. another flyer akin to flinging poo on the wall and calling what sticks art and what doesn't a valient effort. then another over the hill italian for parcells dinner table. a lot of pasta goes through that house.
let's not sniff the other players that were the ones to get, no. i realize they were talking about going where they wanted to go, but we had the money. we could have at least talked to them and *try*. but nope.
so free agency came and went and the battlecry of FLO WILL RETURN!!!! HE WILL SAVE US!!! rained down upon us all as if saying it loud and proud could somehow make it actually true. see how well drew did before flo went down? with flo back we're be super-drewper again!!!!
lord i heard that FAR too often in here. with flo back, we're fine. man did i get dogged on for saying it wouldn't be enough - not even close. (back to my therapy - "let it go, berg...let it go!)
kozer was going to be this super-sleeper that will pan out because he put the star on (my how that always seems to work!) and fabini's turnstyle roadshow is now parked here in dallas.
somehow i felt cheated and anger set in.
the draft - we have to address this problem in the draft, right? i mean sooner or later you have to build a solid trench cause isn't that where the games are won and lost? we wiffed in FA but we won't miss solid opportunities in the draft. WE WON'T I TELL YOU!!!
i guess i should have seen the anger coming.
i mean, the "book" on our qb is simply rattle him and he's done. (i'll leave the 2nd 1/2 freefalls out of this for now cause we'll get flo back and be fine) you know, hit him a few times, talk about his momma and keep telling him what a nice touchie he has - you can get to him and we've seen it TWICE so far in 4 games. wait - i just jumped to today. sorry, let me go back and we'll come back to today in a bit.
so we know we need a solid line for our qb to have a snowballs chance in hell. even a dead mans logic would tell you to invest in the line. you pick up one part (drew), see what else it needs (solid OL mandatory to that pieces success), and you get it to at least try to plan for success. simple, right?
7 rounds in the draft proved me wrong once more. but of all the ironies in life now that flo has been "exposed" and people suddenly see he's not the end-all-save-all he's being bashed all around the forums by fan after fan that i SWEAR TO FREAKING GOD just last year saying we'll be fine, super-flo will return and his cape will fit under his pads and his locker is now a phone booth...wait, we just figured out flo sucks again (like he always has but he got his 15 minutes of fame and did his best work off the field apparantely) and he's about to be benched.
and replaced by that 7th round pick.
now people who defended us wiffing in FA said we never had a chance, let it go. um...ok. but i found out later these were the same people who later said "even if we drafted someone in the 1st round, who'd they replace? they'd be sitting on the bench and not even used, i tell you!!!
amazing how many people buy companyline rhetoric, isn't it?
but yea, it would suck to have your 1st round pick sit on the bench, not play and be inactive so i can see the logic of not doing that to your 1st round pick.
uh oh...wait.
but maybe the 2nd roun...no. we *need* a TE in this BPA draft style! well ok, maybe he can help block but now the THIRD ROUND SURELY...um...wow, another defensive pick. it's almost as if parcells just wants to build an entire team out of LB's and tweener DE's. we go through enough of them to sponsor a refugee camp of defensive players.
ok, 4th round we'll fina...uhmmm...damn....
ok, FIFTH ROU...um... oh hell. wake me when he's done screwing up.
back to today. bledsoe is crap and we see that. we rant and rave all day long about how bad he is, but if TO burps, it's bledsoe blasphamy. we signed TO when i wanted javon walker. but what the hell do i know - i said 3 years ago parcells wouldn't do anything in the end because of his stubbornness and it went from i was just a hater to now it's commontalk on forums and stations all around - bp won't get it done. his stubborness went from "mark of a good coach" to his biggest flaw.
i was a hater when hating was uncool. (country song time!) now it's the rage and i don't care - i just want this run over and parcells loading up for his "shotgun approach" i said he was on that wasn't likely to hit the target would just be wasted time.
whoever comes in next needs to take 3-4 on the OLine and lose the rest. trade 'em for a dwarf prostitute and let jjones start up a new side business. whatever. but let's put the focus where it needs to be regardless of who the qb is - because i do feel the game is won in the trenches and while i'm no BP, it seems a lot of people caught up to me and are seeing ****** move after ****** move that pans out to be crap regardless of the hype shining it up. we need him gone before we spend an entire draft on kick returners before we realize bp went senile because we all know he shoulda picked a LB somewhere in there too. we don't have enough LB's and all other positions are fine.
flo was never that great but his injury did serve as a great excuse for a patented drew AAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa fall at the end of last year. all the talk of flo coming back and solidifying the line is now THANKFULLY over and all that's left is to see this train wreck through to it's completion and hope and pray the true value we get out of bp's tenure is jjones showing he finally learned how to stay out of the way of his coach.
sorry, i let my sarcasm out to play today.
