If you didn't watch the draft show today, something interesting was brought up by Nick Harris.

Brendan Sorsby, Cincinatti QB now a transfer to Texas Tech is being called out by the NCAA for sports betting allegations.

If he is found guilty of betting, he will be ruled ineligible for the rest of his college career. He will then probably enter the NFL supplemental draft. He will be a top 100 candidate in the 2027 draft or even higher if he plays the year with the Red Raiders.

It's just an interesting tid bit. He's a talent and a lot of teams will be vying for his services if this happens. Dallas could be in on a developmental QB; it wouldn't hurt. He might be exonerated from his allegations but until then, I thought this should be brought up as a talking point.

Yep, PFF had him as an easy 1st rounder.

The thing about the supplemental draft is--does any team take him with their 2027 first-rounder?

If not--when?

I think the NFL will try to Black Ball him a bit. They don't want to reward this kind of behavior. If I were the Cardinals I would throw a 3rd round pick out there. That would probably win the sweepstakes. He is a good player and young kids do dumb things, it's a song as old as time.

If for some reason teams get all high and mighty about his transgressions, then by all means get him for one of your sixth round picks in 2027. Talent outweighs stupidity in this business.

Yeah. I don't think he gets drafted at all if this is a serious issue and the integrity of any game he was in gets called into question. There is still a lot we don't know but to have this hanging over him isn't a plus for him.

Don't know if it's a matter of blackballing him. NFL doesn't want to be accused of collusion although they do it all the time.

It's just that it's hard to kick a gambling habit. Ask Art Schlichter.

Dumb things? Supposedly he bet over 1,000 times. Surprised it took this long to figure it out.

QB position has the most impact on the game. This kid is finished. He can play flag football.

Poor Texas Tech, they got screwed royally.maybe teams should vet these transfers more bfore giving them 5-6 million.

Yea, not sure he'll be taken that high if he declares.

Gambling addiction + NFL is a big bet(pun intended) for teams to risk on him. Last thing you need is your QB getting Pete Rose'd

This tidbit says 'degenerate gambler' to me:

"..and bet on balls and strikes at Cincinnati Reds' games."

Don't think a couple of weeks of 'rehab' is gonna fix this guy. Did I day 'fix'?
Sitting around and betting a dollar on the next pitch is something I've done 500 times lol. It's just fun to do with your friends - which is what I'd bet he does. Thousands of bets isn't really that significant with the proliferation of apps. Throw $5 on a few games here and there and you can hit 1,000 bets pretty easily.

All of this is to say, unless he's in significant debt and can't get out, betting a lot can just be fun and doesn't mean his gambling is really a problem.

He's probably going to get suspended in the NFL for a year or so, which might knock him down a bit. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone use a second-round pick on him though.

It’s all relative. Supposedly the vast majority of the bets were between $1-2.5…and the kid has received millions in NIL money. I could argue he at least showed some restraint. If he was caught buying $1/2 lottery scratch off tickets every day would it be this big of a deal?

Not saying it’s ideal, or completely nothing, but the gambling controversy is starting to feel the same as people pretending to be outraged that athletes smoke weed.

Obviously if the gambling can be proven to affect the outcome of the game it’s a different story though

Breer on Dan Patrick this AM talking Sorsby. Said he spoke to contacts in NCAA, law, and the NFL. Here is the nutshell version of what he thinks PROBABLY happens based on those conversations.

1) loses NCAA eligibility

2) does not get granted an injunction to go back to Texas Tech

3) enters NFL supplemental draft

4) some teams are willing to give a 2nd rounder, possibly a 1st for Sorsby

5) gets the Terrell Prior 6 game suspension.

All FWIW.

Does the NCAA prohibit buying lottery tickets?

Can the NFL or its owners own the betting services that provide the services that Sorsby is not allowed to use?

I think if selected it will be for a late round pick.
