Suppose we draft Howard--TE Alabama

[Verdict]

Lets assume hypothetically that we draft Howard late in the first round or in the early second in a trade down. He is alleged to be the best tight end in the class but a tier below some of the elite tight ends that have been drafted in prior years.

He would obviously be the heir apparent to Witten going that high. With Wittens huge cap hit where do you guys see that leaving Witten? Taking a pay cut to stay a year or two? Being cut as a cap casualty?

Witten could obviously teach the kid a lot, but as a player Witten has seen better days. What do you guys see as the most likely scenario with Witten if we were to go that route?

He's not making it to 28. He is putting on a clinic at the senior bowl.some are even questioning why he wasn't used more at Alabama.

I always believe best player available is always the best strategy when choosing in first couple of rounds, so I'm not against it if he falls to 28

I'd expect a defensive player to likely be our 1st round preference but, of course, anything can happen. DE and the secondary seems to prioritize our needs but if the BPA commands an offensive pick, I'd have to guess RT, WR and TE would surely rank high on our list.

No way he falls without character issues... in which case Dallas wouldn't use a first on him anyway.

Also, he isn't a notch below recent TE prospects that have come out. Dude is a real weapon and is very good. Top 15 in all likelihood.

But if he somehow did fall, yeah I'd be ok with it. He would probably be BPA by a mile.

He very well could land in New York. Paul Perkins has emerged and almost eliminates a RB in round one.

They have needs at LB and maybe DT.

Howard, Beckham, Shepard ... that may be the best trio in the NFL.

Good post by brother. My only question about Howard [a 5 star recruit], had he gone elsewhere does he rise on draft boards? He played on a simple, yet effective offense, that doesn't spread ball around. The kid has it all IMO

Tues: Roberts did a terrific job today. He plays much faster than anyone would expect and runs solid routes. Except for one drop he also caught the ball very well, but he was beat a few times around the edge during blocking drills.

Wed: Except for one bad drop it was a very good day for Roberts. Again, he showed surprising speed and quickness and came away with several tough grabs. Also looked dominant in blocking drills.

Thurs: Another terrific practice from Roberts. He looks incredibly smooth and fluid for a 261-pound tight end and made a lot of nice receptions down the field today.



Analysis: Roberts improved from his impressive performance at last week’s Shrine Game. He’s incredibly fluid and smooth for a 260-pound tight end and catches the ball exceptionally well. Roberts is deceptively quick and plays the game at a good pace. He blocks like an offensive tackle and really impressed scouts during his Senior Bowl performance.

He would certainly be on the map a little more for fans had he gone to a school who used him like Washington does Reed (or something similar). However, I think the scouts... particularly after the Sr. Bowl practices... know what the guy is and what he can do.

He is legit and on a whole different plane than what Escobar, Bennett, and Fasano were when Dallas took them. Also, Witten is much closer to the end now.

Having said all of that... I don't see a way Dallas can get him.

I really like this guy. Sounds like Garrett's type of TE.
