Why hasn't Dallas used the surplus salary cap money, 5 million I believe,
to either accelerate a players contract or re sign somebodies contract that is coming up? Like Philly did with Westbrook. It seems like a waste to leave that money on the table. Unless Jerry needs a new boat or something.

Stephen Jones was on Norm a couple of weeks ago and I believe he said they are working on renewing some deals.

Patience.

Fujita should get done.

Witten is the big one that is coming up -- he's a restricted FA at the end of the year since his deal shortens to a 3 year -- we had to do that because of the Hutch signing.

Stephen is smart -- he's going to get something done.

Jerry is spending wisely... I have zero problem with the way he's doing business these days.

Roy and Newman will be coming up soon as well. That's the bad thing about having young players. When there Rookie contracts are up, it's hell.

It won't get left over. Early in the season, its nice to leave some money on the table to sign guys like Colombo, Brooks, Dixon, Scott, etc. as needed.

Any left over money will either be used to extend a player or used as a LTBE incentive that will turn into a cap credit next year.

forget about using that money on current contracts at this time...as long as we're in the playoff hunt, we have to keep that money available...pretty fortunate we had money in the bank to spend on the guys we've signed lately on the OL and defensive backfield.

If we continue our serious push to the playoffs, it's nice to have a little cash on hand in case we find ourselves with a sudden desperate need.

Any player we can bring in at that point is going to be under a minimum contract -- our ability to sign those guys is not impacted by cap status. As I understand it you can be over the cap and still bring in guys with minimum deals.

I really hope that Jerry and Stephen get something done for Fujita and Campbell in a hurry before the end of the year. Personally I don't want either of them sniffing the open market.

Dallas won't lose the money we will prob do what we did last season and place all of it in a player bonus that is unatainable then we would get it recredited next year.

I don't think that is necessarily true. While certain veterans only count a portion of their salary against the cap if they sign for the minimum, I don't think you can sign any player for a salary that would allow your team to exceed the cap.

I don't know the numbers, but if you bring in a vet for the minimum salary for his tenure ($850k), he might only count $450K against the cap. However, you still have to have that $450K available. I could be wrong, but thats how I understand it.

I think you are not correct. If that were the case we'd have a number of teams out there that had rosters with empty spots on them.

If AdamJT is out there, we could use your input.

Junk is correct. Every player on the team -- including those on injured reserve or the practice squad -- counts against the cap.

Also, there's no reason to rush into contract extensions for our players. If we wait until the CBA gets extended, we can prorate their bonuses over more years. And any cap room we have left over this season (we're $3.78 million under right now) will be pushed into next season anyway.

Really? It rolls over? So whats to stop a team from fielding a $50 million team one year, to field a $150 million team next year?

Or is the rollver special?

Thanks for clearing that up.
