Surprise, surprise... media are jerks

I don't recall a lot of groaning about the Scandrick pick. Everyone from Kiper to Gosselin praised the pick and he was rated as a top 100 or 3rd rounder all over the place.

As far as I remember, that pick was about as universally praised as any in recent memory.

The talking heads liked it. Quite a few posters wondered who the heck he was and why we drafted him.

My point is that even last year, which appears to be a good draft, there was a lot of moaning by quite a few posters. We just need to see how these players perform on the field before condemning this draft, like several posters continue to do after each pick.

IMO, if we get 5-7 guys who can contribute on a regular basis, we've done well.

Of course Maycock and the rest are absolutely slobbering over the Giants', Eagles', and Commanders' draft. What does Maycock have to say about our 10 picks so far...that we got a couple of "undersized linebackers". I guarantee you, with all the press and buzz Jason Williams was getting, if New England drafted him we would still be hearing about it. Also, no mention of all the other value picks we got... and all the Stephen McGee love... well, no more now that he's a Cowboy.

For all you teenage drama queens, this is not a thread for you to respond on either...
The truth hurts. The Eagles and Giants had fabulous drafts, and the Cowboys didn't.

If you don't want people with dissenting viewpoints, Barbie, don't put up a thread. The media DOES clamor over the east coast teams. That's where they live. This draft, they DO have a good reason to slobber, especially over the Giants & Eagles.
They also have a great reason to dog the Dallas draft....it downright sucks! A freaking kicker in the 5th rd. when you just drafted one two draft ago & he made the Pro Bowl??!!! Also, half the picks were Joe Blow from East Butt Pucker State. I can see going out on a limb for a pick you have a gutt feeling about, but using it as the base of your draft?....duh.

More likely, the Eagles and Giants had good-looking drafts, while the Cowboys didn't draft anyone we recognized.

NO draft is really good or bad for 3-4 years.
Except maybe Oakland....

You should have expected for this not to be a sexy draft for the Cowboys. They didnt have a first round pick. And it was a weak draft. The only thing I wounld have done differently was trade some of those 5th and 6th round picks for picks next year to help them move around then. Whether or not the Eagles and Giants had a great draft and the the Cowboys a terrible one is not going to be decided for years. For all the fans on the ledge....jump!!! Please!!!

This draft reeks of the post-Jimmy, pre-Parcells eras. Jerry trying to find hidden gems and trying to outsmart everyone. He is such a good owner and I know he wants to win but he has got to step away from the GM role. We reached today and we reached badly. I actually like some of the players we took but we took them too high. Hamlin and Mickens were solid value picks.

We did not have 12 roster spots and there is no way we should have drafted 12 players. We should have traded up or traded for 2010 picks. We overdosed on Special Teams and projects this weekend and we did not improve as a team.

I know the apologists will bash me but I think we screwed up badly. I feel like the Eagles game all over again, we came in with a chance to go to the playoffs and we got dominated. The Eagles, the Giants, and even the Commanders improved and we churned the bottom of our roster.

These 12 kids are now Dallas Cowboys and I will root for them to prove me wrong.

The eagles had a hell of a draft..

Lot of potential there...
Washington w/ Orakpo next to Haynesworth is a bit worriesome.

Jerk doesn't describe Mike Mayock -- at least not in terms of his draft analysis. He's fairly genuine and intellectually honest in his assessments, and he's lauded the Cowboys in the past when he felt it was warranted.

Let's be honest here. The very early returns indicate absolutely nothing special about this draft. It wasn't a bad draft, but it included nothing notable, in my opinion.

I can remember when the Cowboys had a good looking draft when we got Roy Williams, Andre Gurode, Antonio Bryant, and Derek Ross. Turns out that draft basically sucked.

And yet it was one of the best post-Jimmy Johnson drafts before Parcells got to Dallas.

What gets me is they will count Jason Peters in grading the Eagles draft but will leave out Roy Williams when looking at the Cowboys.

Oh yea, that's right! (sarcasm)

I agree with you, you've got to include Roy in the draft.

If anyone was watching ESPN, then you may have seen Dilfer call out chris carter and TJ for saying all last year that we need to get rid of the drama (TO, tank, pacman) to be a better team, and then said we aren't better than last year. It was nice to see someone call them out. Of course, Dilfer will probably be fired because of it.

That doesn't say much at all.

Wasn't that the draft where we went crazy on corners? Kareem Larrimore and Mario something?

He's just a poster who has graduated from the immature stage of having to agree with everything the Cowboys do to be considered a "real" fan.

It's okay to have a differing opinion, even as a fan.
Yeah, please sticky this on the board, because when I have negative things to say about a negative season, all I get is blasted.

:cry2:

Thats the sound you're making at anyone who doesn't agree with you that the Cowboys did well the last two days. It's hilarious how if people don't like something it makes them whiners, or complainers, or drama queens or whatever the latest buzz word(s) are to refer to them with.

That said I'm not in love with our draft but I'm not pissed off about it either. It turned out OK, in my eyes, and it's one that I can live with.

I didn't study the guys that much so I have no opinion on them. Seems like we're unsettled on the OLB as it stands.

I keep having flash backs to the Sherman Williams/ Eric Bjornsen draft where the boot leggers boy stammered something about drafting for depth. Please let me be wrong, we all know how that turned out.:laugh2:

I think all three of the teams in our division got some top notch players. We will have our work cut out for us.

I'm wondering with all the Linebacker picks if it means we're going to try and move Ellis and Bobby for something at some point in the next couple of weeks.
