Surprising Stat- Ints

That's actually the one that came to mind. I didn't get to watch today's game yet, so I don't know about them.

But again, most INT's are the fault of a bad throw or decision, I'd think. Most DB's have INT's given to them.

I would say the ones that do it consistently are the ones who are adept at baiting the QB into "bad" looking throws and the ones who are the best at anticipating routes. I wouldn't put Newman into either category.

But again.. he did catch the balls thrown at him, so at least give him credit for that. His play this season goes further than a nice amount of INT's though. Clearly, he wasn't the same T New that we all remember him being.

He's never been the most consistent player or a guy to make many plays on the ball, but this year he just got beat over and over. I hope it was just because of injury, but he's not getting any younger either. Beat today badly by the white boy.. if he's not injured it was a play that shows he's clearly lost a step or two.

I gave him credit for catching the ball.. what do you want?

Me to say that Newman made some really great plays on the ball this year? He had a poor year.. got some INT's that were a result of badly thrown balls. Not much more can be said. Maybe "sham" wasn't the best choice of word, but the simple point was that Newman didn't make many plays on the ball this year at all and was beaten like a mule.

I also gave him credit for rebounding a little the past couple games, but overall he still had a very poor season and is not the same player he was in the past for us.

Backhanded compliments are a copout...

Using stats to make your point without situational comparisons are, by definition, biased...

Just sayin'...

What I want you to do, is back up your stats with relevant data...

I've always been a fan of Newman's, and I will definitely say he got beat waaaaay more this year than in the past, which worries me. On the flip side, he has historically been bad about not getting picks, so at least that part of his game improved. I'm not really as down on Newman as I am on Campo. The talent is there at corner. We just need some better coaching back there. They were talking during the game about how the db's kept playing the wrong technique or leverage. Even Pascualoni said so. That goes back to Campo. For whatever reason he's not getting the most out of these players mentally. I can't wait for a coaching change there.

And then put your elbow in your ear.

Two picks today, and what comes up is that he got beat on another double move.

It's hard to determine who is adept at baiting. That's kind of subjective.

I didn't see him play today so I guess I'll see what you are talking about when I watch it.

Me too. If Dez wasn't there he was the one I wanted.

I gave him credit for stepping up his play the last couple games as well. Two picks today yes, but both were the "gift" INT's i was referring to. The first he was standing right in front of the intended receiver, the second was a badly underthrown ball.

Happy he got the 2 picks, and that we won, just not overly impressed with any of it. We played against a team of guys who are just happy to have jobs in the NFL right now. Backups, 3rd stringers, XFL castoffs, Keanu Reeves, etc..

I'm thinking about starting a Madden franchise in your name, where every year my first round pick is a cornerback. :laugh2: :D

Agree there. Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick.. all have enough talent it seems. The coaching has been abysmal though. The zone D doesn't appear to be helping either, nor the bad safety play, nor the lack of a pass rush, etc.

He actually set up Kolb there... but don't let that get in your way...

Again, I'm no Newman fan, but I do recognize a good play as opposed to a "gift"...

Which play?

Not going to be impressed if you don't want to be impressed. Like I said earlier, there's no point debating the merit of individual interceptions. If a guy makes it look easy, more power to him. They all change possession, and they all stop the other guys' scoring opportunities just the same.

I will say this: road wins in January starting your third string QB under an interim head coach don't grow on trees. I enjoyed the win and was just glad we pulled it off.

Im glad we won as well, just not very impressed by a win with most of our starters playing against mostly backups and 3rd stringers. If you're impressed by that more power to you, but i've been a Cowboys fan too long to be happy with a win like that. I expect much more.

The first one where he had no assignment and hung back and spied Kolb...

How did he set Kolb up there? He was standing in his zone, Kolb didn't see him, Newman only had to take one step to the left and the ball was right at him.

He didn't set him up at all, he just had no assignment that ran into his zone, Kolb didn't see him, and threw the ball right at him.

If you have other info please share it.

There's a difference between 'high' and 'unrealistic.' Watch long enough, and you won't take any wins, or any game-changing plays, for granted.

Then I guess you and I disagree... along with the booth...

But you did give him credit for catching it... kudos...

There's no reason we should have lost that game today. We won. We did what was expected. If we lost, it would have been 2 weeks of embarassment in a row. Only this time against backups.

Again, i explained that he threw the ball right too him, and basically just didn't see him. How do you see it that he set Kolb up there?

Please explain..

In my view.. he was in his zone, had no assignment because no receiver ran into his assigned area, so he got to keep his eyes on the QB the entire time.. Kolb didn't see him, threw it, Newman took one step to the left and had the easy pick. He barely had to move.

BTW.. the booth said the same thing. They said initially he threw it right to Newman. Moose commented how they had no one moving left to control Newman's position.. so as i said, he had the ability to keep his eyes on the QB the entire time, and was right in front of the receiver when Kolb threw the ball. After the throw, he had to take a step to the left and he had it easily. I don't see how you can see it any differently.

so you started the day knowing you were gonna be unhappy with the outcome of the game today? win or lose dont m

no it wasnt pretty, in fact it was ugly....but to expect anything more with a 3rd stringer making first start on the road in Philly and come away with a win,......unless you are part of the "we needed to lose for better draft position group" this should be an acceptable win

special teams played ok..minus the missed FG, and the defense had what 6 sacks?....2 ints.....and a ware TD.....and held for the most part, in fact sealed the game today and our 3rd string QB made the plays that counted at the end
