He was also a zone corner who was caught at one time using roids.

Surtain is going to be a zone corner. What's your point? Surtain will legit be playing the exact same coverage schemes Sherman was. Also, Sherman's positive test was overturned and the league determined he did not violate PED policy.

But please, keep talking out of your stink hole.

Surtain has a real quiet but distinct confidence to his game and demeanor. He's as technically sound as I've ever seen a non-professional. The question marks were did he have the type of athleticism you want in an elite Corner?

He answered that today.

Today's performance and Farley's injury has me going from thinking "Surtain is one hell of a consolation prize at 10" to "Man, I hope Surtain is there at 10"

I would not be surprised to see Surtain go at #4 after today. Depends what Atlanta's game plan is after they doubled down on their thin Ryan/Julio core. Either way, he looks very likely to be the first defender taken.

To me Surtain his head and shoulders better than Farley and it wasn’t close. Farley is a pure athlete with a ton of upside, but you question his toughness and wants to on the field. The guy doesn’t bother to fight off blocks and has little to no interest to help in the running game. Horn is my #2 cb, Newsome 3, Farley 4 {pre-injury). Id make play in the 3rd at this point.

In that video, the scout that Jeremiah and Pioli are talking about (Lionel Vital)... the one that they say knows defensive backs so well... he is now a scout with the Dallas Cowboys.

I bet he’s banging the table for Surtain.

I’ve thought all throughout the pre-draft process that Surtain was plenty athletic and that he’d run better than a lot of people thought... but I didn’t expect him to have that kind of athleticism. His vertical and broad show a lot of explosion for a big corner like him.

He’s a fantastic prospect but he might not make it to 10 now. His smarts, intangibles, size, athleticism, work ethic, and character are all pretty stellar. Add in that he has proven that he can flourish with hard coaching, playing in the best conference and practiced every day against first round WR’s while Nick Saban was scrutinizing his play.

Plus, he’s been starting at Alabama since he was an 18 year old true freshman and he had coaching from a pro bowl corner since he was old enough to walk.

One of the cleanest prospects that I’ve ever seen.

Saying that he isn’t good because of his speed is the height of lunacy.

Surtain is not going top 5 with teams desperately trying to get the quarterbacks. The problem is for him to get to 10 is teams drafting 7-10 especially the Jets or Atlanta in possible trade backs. His 40 time was good not great so it is a good chance he will be there at 10. I don’t think he falls below 12 or goes higher then 7.

He's NFL ready. I've never seen a stream of elite Wrs come out of one school like Alabama had during Surtains tenure. So, he's been going against multiple first round pick WRs every practice for 3 years.

1000%.........nonsense bashing this kid coz ran an official faster time than they expected. Hell, I guess we need to question all 40 times. What's interesting, some of the same fans couldn't contain their excitement when Eric Stokes, Georgia CB ran a 4.2 40 on his pro day.

I love the guy he excels in man coverage and intelligent play in zone coverage, knows how to attack the football and make plays.

Pro day times are slower. Mo Claiborne ran 4.50 at the combine. Then ran 4.39 at his pro day. I’d say he’s about 4.54-4.57. That’s too slow.

I agree.

My son used to attend SEC university-level football camps and would run 40 meter dashes. They are NOTORIOUSLY inaccurate.

And I used to sit behind the time keepers and see/hear them all comparing times then reach for an average.

Unless it involves an electronically-based system that starts and stops the clock with accurate precision, I wouldn't trust these times.

Nothing has changed in my book.

My order of players that could be realistically available at #10 and without trade back options:

#1 - Surtain (Fairley is red-flagged due to injury)
#2 - Kyle Pitts
#3 - RaShawn Slater

I'm on the Kyle Pitts train but this post is trash. The kid is 6'2 208 running a 4.4 I'm good if we take him at 10.
