A Jones fracture? There's irony in this situation somewhere.

On the other note, looks like we'll be drafting a tight end with Swaim down, Witten's gums receding and Escobar headed for the border.

Come on man...
I have high hopes for Swaim this year, the run game was a whole lot better with him as the #2 TE. I'm hoping he comes around in the pass catching game...him and Rico would be a nice tandem to take over when JWit retires.

So...

1. Witten, who contemplated retirement
2. Swaim, injured
3. Hanna, coming off a year ending knee injury
4. Gathers, a project who is a boom/bust type of prospect.

Yea, think we may go TE early this year.

Does not have to be early, but it pretty much adds another "must have" to the checklist along with DE, DBs and OT.

George Kittle is a mid round prospect who can block very well, may be a consideration.

Time to draft a TE, this guy another in the long line of injury write offs on this team. Hope Gathers can step up.

Just an FYI: My dad just did this to his foot in February. The doctors said this is a 1yr recovery because of blood flow to that area. He is in his mid 50's, so that doesn't help.

Eh, not really. Just don't see anyone on the roster that can be a #1 TE, and with the recent injuries to our backups, and the amount of talent at TE this year in the draft, might not be a bad time to nab one.

Would be one thing if Witten was 31/32, but he's getting up there and thought about retirement. If we took one in day 2, I don't think we'll have to worry about him being second fiddle behind Witten for 4 years and bouncing.

Now of course the coaches may have a higher opinion of Gathers, but I'm not getting too excited about him till he shows some progress in TC/PS.

How so? Only speaks to the current and likely situation.

Escobar is unsigned, probably not returning. Swaim will miss OTAs and if his injury is indeed like Bryant's--they tend to linger.

It would not shock me to see Hanna just get cut.

A running offense to have a TE group like this with that many question marks and issues is not ideal.

I cant get too excited because 1. Its March and 2. Its Swaim.
Nothing Swaim could do at this point would have any impact on my draft.
He is a guy who hangs around the league for a few years and then you forget about him a few years later. Just a guy with a slightly fun to say name for some reason I cant identify.

So either you missed that or you feel that he will be 100% week one and that Hanna is coming back as well.
Didn't miss anything. Hanna won't be back IMO. Between Swaim, Gathers and JWit the TE spot will be fine. Add a draft pick if you wish but I wouldn't early. There are far bigger issues that need addressed.
