3.1 seconds to go and it is a 1 pt Memphis lead...I feel a Law game winner here.

EDIT

Holy crap A&M just got screwed on the clock there with 2 seconds left...how do the refs see 1.1 seconds off the clock!?
Just turned the game on when the refs were checking the replay, I bet they counted till the ball landed out of bounds which would be about 1.1, although I thought I heard a whistle earlier. Oh well, now Gillespy can go to Kentucky and a&m can go back to sucking at Bball.

Wow, A&M made mistakes down the stretch but....wow

Those refs need to pick up a rule book. First, when a player goes up for a rebound, any contact initiated by the offensive player in the air is incidental. Second, the clock does not start until someone touches the ball inbounds.

Great game by both teams, but A&M choked...

btw... what the hell was that 1.1 seconds off the clock stuff by the refs... that was an outrageous blunder...

Law missing that easy layup with under a minute to go was just painful to watch even for a horn fan...I feel for him because he will have some restless nights for a while.

Anyway, Congrats A&M...you had a hell of a year and I will never forget the game in Austin against you guys.

He did, you are right indeed. But many times in a frantic situation like that they'll not call contact that minor.

Congrats on the win! Those were clutch free throws down the stretch from a guy who had been struggling.

I picked the Ags, but I'm fine seeing Memphis move on. And it'll be worth the price of admission to see HH's reaction to this one.

He went up for the rebound and the shooter outjumped him and put up a shot in one motion. There was a hand in his chest because he outjumped the defender.

Basically, the refs penalized A&M for having smaller vertical jumps. Incidental contact, Memphis missed 4 open shots and then got bailed out. That doesnt get called in the NBA.

Not that Memphis shouldnt have won, A&M blew two layups and a FT late. Just seems trivial for a game to come down to incidental contact with 3 second sleft

I guess I'm going to have to find out what happened with 3 seconds left, looks like starting tomorrow I'll be hearing excuses for a while.:D

If the shoe was on the other foot you'd be saying it was a good call.

Hats off to Memphis for moving on.

My disappointment is that a referee's poor clock decision pretty clearly affected the outcome of the game. I think A&M could have run a set play with 2.9 seconds left, but instead had to attempt a desperation 3 pointer instead.

Sad when things like that happen and the teams don't get to run the offense and defense that they should have been able to, and have THAT determine the actual outcome.

or perhaps they lost the game when they couldn't get any one of 5 rebounds on the defensive end just prior to that, huh?

or maybe the law missed layup?

nahhhhhh...you're right. it was the refs.

A&M had its chances, alot of missed rebound opportunities and a couple of missed shots toward the end. They had other opportunities to win the game earlier, I agree with you in that sense.

But the mismanaged clock WAS a factor at THAT particular time, and did affect the outcome of the game.

It was one hell of a game period my team was just lucky enough to come out on top. Props to A&M for a tough tough game.

I noticed the first time I saw that replay that the ball didn't hit the out of bounds line on the first bounce. The ref blew the whistle, but I don't know what the rule is regarding a ref's whistle before the ball is actually out of bounds. It only makes sense though that if the ref was mistaken as to when the ball actually went out that a replay can correct that call as well.

Yeah, looking at it again, the refs probably made the right call there with the clock.

Bottom line...

Did A&M get jobbed on that call? probably...

BUT... the fact of the matter remains that they should have put the game away LONG before that call became an issue...

Two good teams... a good game... A&M did not take advantage of the situation and were beaten by the better team on this night...

I have heard several explainations of the call today and now it makes sense.

Before the ball went out of bounds it was touched by a Memphis player. Therefore the clock should have started and ran until it touched something or someone out of bounds.

That is the rule. It was a good call.
