Swing Tackle

steel was just awful last night against backup texans players. i really like the #94 defensive end of the texans he made a few plays.

Martin is probably the swing tackle with McGovern coming in to play Guard if nothing else changes. You expect progress from one year to the next, but it just hasn't been there with Steele for sure.

The whole season hinges on Tyron who hasn’t played a full season in 5 years and oh yeah its a 17 game season. Steele is not an NFL tackle. Not sure who he has pictures of. That old guy Nsehke is even worse. I have to believe the swing tackle is not on the team yet.

Knight is our best backup T. He was an ok backup in 2019 and started 2020 pretty well, but collapsed toward the end of the season. Most likely that was some injury. Hope so.

Interesting fact on Martin. Last year was his highest PFF grade, and that's playing injured a while, and out of position. Stud.

Worst cast scenario, you play Martin at Tackle and play McGovern at Guard. That is still a better line then most around the league. Let's no close the book on Nse just yet, he is a quality backup. Let's not forget the QB's playing and holding the football way too long, either.

#Slater was on the board. Just saying.

IMHO, the best we can do is wish for good luck. 8)

hope that Colllins and that hip holds up. (Unlikely)

hope that TSmith has zero injuries.

Martin isn’t a T.

He’s good, so he can do it.

but then we need a RG.

that’s a worse case scenario we don’t want to repeat.

and we wouldn’t have to if they had found some players in FA and the draft.

I think Steele’s 700k base salary has a lot to do with it.

and Collins has a 1.5 mil base.

Jerry is cheap.

hes betting we won’t need the 2’s to play T.

instead of sitting on our hands like we last year we need to be proactive, scan the waivers or even trade for an OT

We like our guys

Collins base is artificial though. It was 9 m that they converted to a signing bonus. He still is paid a lot of money.

McGovern is clearly the 6th best OL on the team. If a T went out, you would want your best 5 on the field still. That would be Martin at T and McGovern at G. Much better than keeping Martin where he is and putting Steele in there.

The answer may be what they do with Ball on cut down day. If they carry him on the 53 and then IR him so he can be brought back, it may mean he is the guy. Personally I liked Knight. Steele and Nsehke don't look like viable options. Most likely scenario (unless we add someone else) may be moving Martin and playing both McGovern and Williams at OG

I disagree to some extent.

Last season the Cowboy managed to lead the league in passing yards by 300 more yards than the 2nd place team in that category at the point when Dak was injured.
- The majority of the OT snaps during that time were played by Steele and Knight.

Having said that none of the 3 options are currently borderline starters at OT which is true of the very best Swing Tackles.

All 3 options (Nsekhe, Steele, Knight) are slightly better than most of the Swing Tackles they've had between 2015 and 2020 (Cam Fleming, etc.).
- Swing Tackle as been a problem since Jermey Parnell departed after the 2014 season.

Steele is working on technique, especially at LT.
- Despite what most fans believe, he had some good games last season and some good quarters in some of his bad games.
- I think Steele has the most talent of the 3.
- Nsekhe has proven to be a steady but unspectacular Swing Tackle for several years.
- Knight started 9 games at LT last season despite physically being much more of a RT or OG body type.
- Side Note: I think Knight could be a decent starter at OG. He has played both OG and OT this preseason.

Zack Martin said during an in-game interview (Texans game) that the OL depth is the best that it has been in a few years.
- He said that one positive from last season was the experience gained by multiple young OLinemen.

Still a terrible idea no way im taking a swing tackle top 10 in the draft. Those picks need to make an immediate impact.

McGovern looked bad last night too. Although he hasn't been as bad as backup OT.
