Swing Tackle

I like Williams, but it is hard to miss him getting blown up or completely at least once or twice a game.
How many snaps in a game...... once or twice out of 60 or more plays. Williams don't get blown up like that every game anyways though.

Anybody without a bias opinion can clearly see McGovern isn't better than Williams. To say so shows lack of knowledge or straight bias

Sounds like maybe you have some bias

I wanted to see Josh Ball and am disappointed that he injured the ankle. Hopefully by the latter part of the season, he will emerge as the swing via solid practices against the 1st team defense.

Other than that...that position looks bleak for all the reasons other posters have mentioned regarding Nsehke (sp?), Knight and Steele.

Every team in the league is desperate for quality OL depth

Sure but both of our starting tackles are coming off of injuries. Our LT has been battling injuries for years. For the cowboys, a backup swing tackle is critical because it is almost guaranteed that they will need to play.

Yep cause i clearly just repeat what i hear instead of watching the film.......

You dont have to watch a lot of film to see that Williams gets blown up or whiffs almost every game. It isn't about him just not making a block...he at times looks ridiculously bad. The fact that he is pretty good on the other 58 plays puts him in the average OL category. I am of the opinion that if everyone else was healthy, and we replaced Williams with McGovern, there would be minimal to no change in the OL performance.

I'm not disagreeing with going with Parsons. It was to prove that taking Slater wouldn't have been a backup. He would have started day 1
U right on that note. But we had to go defense this year. We should have went defense last year too but ceedee was there and there was really no defender worth taking in that spot

Call me whatever you want...but I watched the condensed game video today. Steele, for a backup, didn't look bad,
Yeah, he gave up a sack on a stunt, but he also stood in front of his foe on many, many plays.
He's a second-year player (room to improve).
Nsheke looked heavy footed and was bull rushed a time or two. He's been in the league for a while. He won't get any better.

we should be looking for a vet backup tackle because steele will get the QB's hurt if he has to start more than a game. Steele is terrible. Not sure how he made the team again. But even the guy we signed Ty Nsekhe looked bad in preseason. Wonder if there is a team we can trade a WR for a backup tackle lol. Or maybe a trade LVE or Jaylon for an up an coming tackle lol (I know big stretch).

I disagree to some extent.

Last season the Cowboy managed to lead the league in passing yards by 300 more yards than the 2nd place team in that category at the point when Dak was injured.
- The majority of the OT snaps during that time were played by Steele and Knight.

Having said that none of the 3 options are currently borderline starters at OT which is true of the very best Swing Tackles.

All 3 options (Nsekhe, Steele, Knight) are slightly better than most of the Swing Tackles they've had between 2015 and 2020 (Cam Fleming, etc.).
- Swing Tackle as been a problem since Jermey Parnell departed after the 2014 season.

Steele is working on technique, especially at LT.
- Despite what most fans believe, he had some good games last season and some good quarters in some of his bad games.
- I think Steele has the most talent of the 3.
- Nsekhe has proven to be a steady but unspectacular Swing Tackle for several years.
- Knight started 9 games at LT last season despite physically being much more of a RT or OG body type.
- Side Note: I think Knight could be a decent starter at OG. He has played both OG and OT this preseason.

Zack Martin said during an in-game interview (Texans game) that the OL depth is the best that it has been in a few years.
- He said that one positive from last season was the experience gained by multiple young OLinemen.
Steele was a disaster last year. Might he be (or get) better? Of course. He was thrust into that spot well before he was ready so pretending that is what he will be for his career would not be fair. But let's not try and sugar coat what happened last year with comments like "he had some good games".
