Switzer in Dunbar's role

Who else loves this idea?

- Better hands
- Better open field moves
- More reliable health as of now
- More of a threat if he slides to WR then when Dunbar did

Now speed I doubt is as good as Dunbars, but more times that not Dunbar was going 0 mph in the trainers room so his speed never mattered much.

I would like us to have sets where Zeke and Switz lineup at rb one on each side. This will force the D to go light and bring in a extra db because a lb can't run with Switz. Now we can run on light boxes too.

This is probably going to be the best Cowboys offense I've witnessed in 20 years as a fan. I FULLY expect us to average 35pts a game if we stay healthy.

Dunbar's strength was that he could run the whole route tree as a RB, and still run the ball between the tackles in a pinch. Nobody's going to be worried about Switzer running the football, I don't imagine. And I guess we'll see if he has better elusiveness than Dunbar had. Dunbar also could at least recognize the free defender and get in his way in the passing game.

That said, Switzer is going to get some of those snaps. And probably all of Lucky's snaps. He'll be a slightly different wrinkle from Dunbar, but a younger, healthier one. If he actually does develop into a player as good as Beasley, look out.

I see him taking more of Luck Whitehead's role.
Better Receiver/route runner. Maybe not as quick/fast but pretty close

Switzer played RB in high school, if im not mistaken. So, it wouldnt be too much of a stretch to put him in the backfield, but... Switzer jumps off the screen as the slot WR and KR. Cant put too much on a rookies shoulders...
Punt returner is were he excels not kick. He can also play outside and not just in the slot

I could see Switzer motioning a few times throughout the season into the backfield. Doubt they would run him between the tackles often though because he would get killed.

Dunbar 40 time: 4.47
Switzer 40 time: 4.52

After Dunbar's injuries I bet Switzer is faster now. But as mentioned above, you don't want the guy in the backfield. Too small to be runner or blocker.

He could be a nice toy for any offensive coordinator...and for the fanbase.

Couple of things.

1. He is quicker and faster than Whitehead.

2. He is a better ball player than Whitehead.

Also, If Switzer takes snaps away from Dumbar I'm very cool with that. Dunbar may have flashed potential and been a coaches pet cat, but we've very rarely seen it where it counts - on the field. That won't be the case with the 133rd pick of the draft.

Dunbar is with the Rams now

I would hope that our scheme is so limited and rigid that Switzer would have to do the "Dunbar role".

To me, that is a stupid role that is predictable. Watch out, here comes our 3rd down back, who we have criminally overated, try and stop him.

Well, they did.

I think it is important we evolve offensively.

If Dunbar role is going to be replaced then best option is Zeke. The second best option is Jahad Thomas.

As long as Whitehead is off the roster, I don't care if Switzer is the next waterboy. To have Lucky and Dumbar off the roster in one offseason is a blessing (and this is coming from a dude that went to the same HS as Dumbar).

Haha at all the people saying Switzer is too small to play running back.........he was a running back.

Sproles, Woodhead etc. say hello
Thats what I was sitting her thinking. Add in what G.Bay does in their backfield with essentially stockier WR types used as RB to create mismatches.

Switzer biggest use in the backfeild would be to start him there and motion out to create problems or slide him out into the open as a receiver...........G.Bay gets alot of mileage in those packages from those guys.
