Switzer trade

i think anyone who could defend him dindt have much to go on and everyone else was like "CHEERS"

Surprized no one brought it up. Looks like a good one. Brings back a DT that was a 2016 2nd rounder. After watching the Amazon show I am glad he is gone. Not much between the ears there.
Bease was a goob for a hot second too, but yeah - I like the trade.

After the trade for Austin he no longer had a place here. Kid never really got a chance here. But that seems to be a theme here at times. TE's they draft never seem to get involved.

Great trade. We did not need Beasley and Switzer
Switzer should not have been drafted in the 4th round. Maybe not even at all.

Ward gives us a DT that they refused to draft. So at least that kind of makes up for it. And to get a 2nd round pick with 2 years of NFL experience is better than a late round DT.

And this was becasue Oakland contacted us, it wasn’t like our FO initiated this trade. We may have lucked into a DT if he pans out.

Actually, we parlayed a 4th round “mistake” into a potential former 2nd round gem. That makes the Switz pick right. It’s the same as Jimmy with Steve Walsh.

As far as Oakland contacting us instead of the other way around, so what? One team, the buyer, always initiates the deal. Maybe we didn’t have our eyes on the DT, but would you expect us to call and say “hey, we don’t really want or need Switzer, what will you gives us for him”? Not a good strategy.

Um...yea, It was brought up. You must be an old timer. No disrespect

Not the same with Jimmy. He picked Walsh as a premeditated calculation knowing he could trade him, or Aikman into more picks.
This FO did not pick Switzer to trade a 4th for 2nd. After we drafted Gallup, Oakland contacted us and said the would like Switzer, and offered Ward, or maybe we said what player on D are you willing to give us. But from what I read they offered Ward.

Doesn’t matter that we didn’t contact them, but Oakland did is a big favor, as they believed they helped themselves too. As Ward did not fit their style of D they are lalnnog to go to.

Everyone needs to cool off on this concept that every player that is moved must have inherent flaws. By that logic, all the terrible stuff being said about Switzer applies to Jihad Ward and every other player changing teams. One could argue that they could have cut him if he were such a problem, but they didn't, and that front office in Oakland didn't just fall off the turnip truck and trade a DT for a "problem".

Let's chill out and think this trade over.

Switzer wasn't without good moments but overall he couldn't figure out the pro return game. He's now one of several WRs but the others can offer more now in the return and passing game. Switzer could become a valuable piece but he isn't yet and this locker room is crowded at the position. He was expendable, that doesn't automatically imply he should have went undrafted or is a problem.

Jihad Ward wasn't good enough in Oakland's scheme, but he strikes me as the type of guy that might just struggle in 3-4 2 gap concepts but will do just fine in a 4-3 1 gap system. Jason Hatcher is a good example of how someone can have a good year in one and lousy in the other. So he's no use to Oakland and expendable, but not necessarily a problem either.

I like Switzer, think he showed some things, but he needs to get smarter and work on his craft. I think both Ward and Switzer could both grow into rotational depth pieces near the bottom of their new rosters.

Seems like a fair trade to me. I like it.

Not one of you have stated that Jihad Ward is a good player. Wonder why?
That’s because in the two years he’s been in the league he’s don’t nothing
Now they moved him around and DT’s tend to be slower developing but so far, nothing

its good a redundancy was replaced with a need.

This guy, he's looking at it the right way.

Switzer wouldn't have made this roster one way or another. He was gone the moment all this cavalry arrived, it just had to play out.

Sure, I have no firm reason to believe Ward will be good but we got a lottery ticket at a position of need in exchange for someone we were showing the door.

Did anyone think we would trade a guy like Switzer for a veteran with the reputation of "good player"?

Fair trade both need work and a system that fits them.Oakland didnt have small shifty WR to work the underneath routes and we had 3 but wanted to add to the DT position!
