Not once has he lauded Owens, not once has he singled out a superb play, not once has he mentioned an exceptionally run route, or a gutsy play, or a fabulous catch. Not once called him a 'dynamic' player. Not once praised a particular play as he does TG on almost a weekly basis.
Now that's just fine - because 'celebrity' playmaking is not what Bill wants anyway. That's what the Madden II portion of the fanbase craves, not Bill Parcells.
Owens role here as a glorified possession receiver, a very effective chain mover, is EXACTLY what Parcells envisions for a ball control, play action oriented offense.
I have no doubt that Bill is happy with his game, drops or not, demands to be fed or not. The chains move. Period.
But that same possession nature of his game is also what will allow him to be cut without feeling a great loss - he isn't theTO of 2004. You're not losing an exceptional talent now. Just a higher grade KJ.
It's sad, really, because no coach will esteem this chain moving role as much as Bill, and Owens, the fool, doesn't realize under Bill Parcells he could extend his career AND amass great stats.
He is already on target to beat his career best year IN passes targeted.
But he can't shut up..he can't shut up because being what he is now, a COG, albeit an important one, is not a glorious enough status for him to be able to live with. He's gotta keep pushing himelf forward as he did on ESPN today ( and yeah, ESPN didn't hold a gun to his head to make him talk).
It's Owens' need to be the center of attention that will end his tenure here. He just can't accept not being the focus of 'everything'. The more his elite talent declines, the more he will need to bring the attention back to himself in some other way, which of course, since he's stunningly stupid, will be a negative way.
It's a darn shame really...for himself more than anyone.
He had a goldmine here. In more ways than one - right owner, the 'right' coach, a partner receiver who not just doesn't squawk about not getting the ball, but befriends him, a talented young QB who can take advantage of a vet. good run game...
..instead he goes on tv to whine his hc didn't send him flowers when he ODed.
Geez, at leasts Parcells didn't text message him "OD on your own time".:laugh2:
Perfectly stated.
Owens is his worst enemy and he dont even know it.
