T.O.-to-Commanders chatter begins
Posted by Mike Florio on April 5, 2010 8:29 AM ET
Four years ago, when the Cowboys were the only team that wanted to give receiver Terrell Owens a contract worth significantly more than the league minimum, the only other team that gave T.O. a sniff was the Broncos.

The Broncos were coached at the time by Mike Shanahan.

Now, with Shanahan in Washington and former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb there as well, too, the initial reaction/speculation by many is that the Commanders could make a play for Owens.

Sure, McNabb and T.O. had some serious issues in Philly. After Owens decided that he wanted out, he decided to become as disruptive as possible -- and that included targeting McNabb with a patent-pending passive-aggressive quarterback attack. Since then, the two have reconciled, most recently taping a segment for Spike TV's Pros vs. Joes.

And now that McNabb has been exiled to Washington, Donovan surely must be intrigued by the possibility of reuniting with T.O. and sticking it, Brett Favre style, to the Eagles.

For now, it's all speculation only. Whether it becomes anything more than that remains to be seen.

I'd absolutlety love but no way it happens.

I would love it too, and I think it will happen.

It could backfire big time, and I don't think any new head coach would be willing to risk that. It would taint their tenure for a long time. Besides, what is that 36 year old really going to do for a team? Things have been moving and shaking for them though.

Age is irrelevant to Shanhan as long as the player is productive. I think shanahan will consult with McNabb first to make sure the relationship wont be a major distraction. If McNabb signs off, i think such a move is very likely, basically since TO is better than any WR they currently have on the roster.

Exactly. Plus, Danny's love for a splash.

They're pretty much putting together the best offense 2004 has ever seen.

oh if there is a god, pleast put portis, haynesworth, hall, mcnabb and owens together under dan snyder.

please let it happen.

The ratings for the Cowboys/Skins game if that happened would be the biggest rated game ever IMO.

I wouldn't want that. The guy can still play. Say what you want but he can still play.

T.O. can play at a level higher than a number of receivers -- but then there are, what, more than 150 receivers in this league.

He's certainly not a dynamic player on a weekly basis any longer. He'll burn you if you're caught napping, sure. But he's not a guy that is going to have any defensive coordinators losing sleep over.

Just check out his game-by-game stats since about Week 3 of the 2008 season. Not prolific whatsoever.

As an aside, I bet the Commanders are rethinking that Willie Parker signing. Just think, they could have added Brian Westbrook to the mix instead.

2010 is starting to look alot like 2000 for the Commanders.

7 coaches later (counting the interim Terry Robeskie) and they're doing the same laughable try to buy a team routine.

At least Detroit fails through the draft.

Yeah, I'm growing increasingly boggled by their philosophy. I understand McNabb is still considered a "franchise quarterback" and is leaps and bounds better than Campbell, but this is a guy with significant warts who Philadelphia has been looking to unload ... and he's 33 freaking years old and obviously on the down side. I don't understand adding a quarterback to him to a team that clearly is not built to win now.

And now I'm reading on the Skins' forum talk about possibly adding Brandon Marshall via trade.

Oh man, TO and Marshall on the same team? What could be better? Adding Pacman too?

No, its so preposterous it might actually happen. I'm convinced that when Snyder dies, they're going to open him up and find the Keebler Elves.

You mean a Keebler Elve...Correct ? :D

Can we start a Pacman to the Skins campaign or something. Get that deal in the works?

This will quickly go the way of the "Peppers-To-Commanders" chatter that a few too many around here bought into lol :)...

TO doesn't scare me much. Marshall is a different story though. Danny needs to fill those seats. I can see that happening.

He doesn't need to be prolific.

He would make that team stronger at WR and I don't really care to see the Commanders improve, even if a little.
