I think this might be the best tackling defense I've seen since Mike Zimmer was here. Other than on special teams, the guys are not missing many tackles. I see a lot of gang tackling as well. Last night in the 1st quarter it seemed like the dline was making a concerted effort to finish tackles on SJAX w/ the linebackers. Sensy had a couple of nice open field tackles. Church is a missile. I very much enjoyed watching Hamilton drill the QB into the ground. Overall I'm very impressed with this aspect of the team.

I agree. Lots of gang tackling at that. And talk about crashing into each other... They are hitting.

I really liked what I say on defense last night. We were missing our best player and still played pretty damn well on defense

I put this a lot of this on Church, he's a heat-seeking missile out there.

A welcomed change. I really think that Ryan has now had enough time to cement his philosophy on the Defensive side of the ball and obtain that exclusive "buy in" from everyone. I saw a little subdued fist pumping from him last night. I think he's quietly relieved that we are beginning to see universal buy in all the way around. It's a marathon not a race.

I raise you a Sean Lee.

Any defense revolves around their middle linebacker and when we have a guy like Lee, flying around like a tackling machine, the rest of the defense is bound to follow.

Its the rams dude.

But it sure is nice to see Sean Lee get a sack. Hes been close many times.

Based on the 3 games we've seen, I'm going to agree. It does seem better.

SJAX never touched the ball last night. That does not take away from the fact that the tackling was good last night. Just providing accuracy.

How could I forget the leader of our defense :)

I had heard somewhere (i honestly forget where) that Rob only gave them 25% of the defense last year. If true, I'm stoked about what we'll see this year

you're right. my bad.

Good eyes, Zordon. I think that's been the real story of the preseason. How well we are tackling.

And while some want to credit Lee and/or Church, I'm going to credit Garrett for this. This is what happens when you have a real training camp with hitting. We didn't have it under Wade and didn't have an offseason last year with Garrett. Now we are starting to see improvement in that area.

Amazing how practicing tackling can make you a better tackler. Somebody tell Newt Gingrich's twin brother.

How can anyone logically come to this conclusion based on a couple preseason games?

let's wait and see how much this team has improved during the regular season.

Yes, we're playing so much better defense now in the preseason against the Rams than we did in 2009 when we were 2nd in the league in scoring defense and beat the Eagles highly-ranked offense two weeks in a row to close the year. :laugh2:

And I didn't realize that spring OTAs when tackling isn't allowed would make you tackle better during the year.

I've gotten used to this from you.
