Tackling has improved

Yes, we're playing so much better defense now in the preseason against the Rams than we did in 2009 when we were 2nd in the league in scoring defense and beat the Eagles highly-ranked offense two weeks in a row to close the year. :laugh2:

And I didn't realize that spring OTAs when tackling isn't allowed would make you tackle better during the year.

we're not discussing the entire defense, only one element of it. also what does spring OTAs have to do with anything? from many accounts, garrett ran one of the most physical training camps this franchise has had in a decade.

Can you really be a great defense if you don't tackle well?

And I mentioned OTAs because RS cited the "full offseason" mantra.

We had an abbreviated camp. No strength and conditioning. The work that usually went into the OTAs had to be done during that brief camp. It's not a stretch to think that effected things and why now we're seeing a better tackling defense.

I raise you a Sean Lee.

Any defense revolves around their middle linebacker and when we have a guy like Lee, flying around like a tackling machine, the rest of the defense is bound to follow.

Sorry, but Church has made the biggest difference so far.

Lee's presence is greatly felt. Overall the improvement of this seasons D starts with Church, we needed a physical Presence in the secondary or back end, and we have it.

And while some want to credit Lee and/or Church, I'm going to credit Garrett for this. This is what happens when you have a real training camp with hitting. We didn't have it under Wade and didn't have an offseason last year with Garrett. Now we are starting to see improvement in that area.

Amazing how practicing tackling can make you a better tackler. Somebody tell Newt Gingrich's twin brother.

It's what happens when you bring in coaches/have a head coach of your own, who wants to change the culture and attitude of this team.

Any BS? Don't let the door hit you.

Good eyes, Zordon. I think that's been the real story of the preseason. How well we are tackling.

It is way easier to tackle someone when you are in proper position. When a defender can diagnose the play and know the angle of attack, it is alot easier to make a true form tackle instead of trying to arm tackle them as they run through ur gap.

A better understanding of Rob's defense definitely is a factor. Good point.

Whatever the reason, it's been notably better. Let's just enjoy the progress.

absolutely agree with tackling having improved

without any solid proof, i think this is a result of the change garrett has made

so kudos to him
