OK FOLKS! Pack it up. Bodi's got it covered from here.

Weaknesses: Run defense, array of moves, consistency off the line.

Scouts and coaches look at Taco Charlton and see a tall, long-armed, athletic pass-rusher who can be sculpted like marble into the ultimate defensive weapon as soon as he: A) Develops a deeper, more refined set of pass-rushing moves; B) figures out how to position himself and use leverage to his advantage in the running game; and C) develops more all-around consistency and a better approach against elite blockers.

I look at Charlton and see the kind of pet-project edge-rusher teams frequently whiff on, a guy whose sack production came when Michigan schemed to free him up against overmatched blockers and a solid athlete who will always get plowed under on running plays or chicken-fight with the left tackle if his first move gets stymied.

Taco reminds me of Greg Hardy without the character issues.

The media dropped Taco after the combine, but Hardy had similar measurable(s) and Hardy was a 4-3 RDE in the NFL.

Taco Charlton

Height: 6055
Weight: 277
40 Yrd Dash: 4.86
20 Yrd Dash: 2.80
10 Yrd Dash: 1.63
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 25
Vertical Jump: 33
Broad Jump: 09'07"
Arm Length:34-3/4"
Hand Size:9 3/4

Greg Hardy
Height: 6040
Weight: 281
40 Yrd Dash: 4.79 (4.96 at the combine)
20 Yrd Dash: 2.81
10 Yrd Dash: 1.67
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 21
Vertical Jump: 36
Broad Jump: 10'01"
Arm Length:34
Hand Size:9 3/4
Ive seen Chandler Jones comps. Which is interesting because Jones plays in 3-4's. However as a rusher he rushes from a 4 man.

Combine stats are eerily similar though

But you just said Frederick doesn't rush the passer by now is important. If 40 speed was a factor of being good or not Frederick and Witten would be two of the worst players in the league.

Taco was only pushing off 1 foot by the way
IIRC Fredericks 40 time was one of the worst ever. May have even been the worst

Yes, not all great pass rushers have great forty times.
Chandler Jones
Greg Hardy
Terrell Suggs
JPP

Jones, Hardy and JPP had good 10-yard and 3-cone times. I can't find those for Suggs.

Taco : 6'6 277 lbs
4.92 40 yd
7.17 3 cone

David Irving : 6'7 273
4.84 40 yd
7.27 3 cone

Taco had a 1.63 10-yard time. That's better than Barnett who had a 1.69.
McKinley had a 1.60 10-yard time at 250 pounds. He would gain weight if he played as a 4-3 DE which would likely decrease his times.

Taco had a 7.17 3-cone time. That's better than McKinley, Harris, and Lawson.
He outweighed McKinley by 27 pounds.
He outweighed Harris by 24 pounds.

Hardy didn't break out until his 3rd year. I suspect if Taco does anything, it will probably be in the 3rd or 4th year.

They didn't scheme to get him free. It was actually the opposite. He would have had more pass rush success in some other schemes.

Yeah who would have figured you would argue that speed is irrelevant?

40 time speed doesn't correlate to NFL success for DL. It is what it is. What scouts look at first is the "iron triangle" of press and the two jumps. Cone and shuttle scores are next in line.

I figure people will always argue nonsense so I am not sure what point you think you are making.

His measurables are fantastic. It's the tape I don't love. I don't hate it, but I don't love it. But I suppose with his size, strength and agility if his tape were much better he'd have been a top-10 guy.

He's a legit late-1, early-2 prospect so nobody should hate the pick. But not everybody is reasonable, either.
