I don't think there is any chance Miller only gets 5 million per. I put him between 6-8m. He's too versatile and too good of a receiver. Someone is going to give him feature back money.

Also, Murray's 2015 season really has no bearing because he significantly older and was in Chip Kelly's abortion of an offense. You also have to factor in the inflation per position we see every season. If Miller was worth 5 million/year in 2015, he'll easily get 6m/yr in 2016.

I just don't think there's going to a big market for him, at least as far as driving up his price. I think 6-6.5 is the upper limit. I only use Murray as an example because his contract for a tier 2 RB was an outlier and that's because Chip was an idiot. Teams aren't going to dole out 8m for a back like Miller.

If he gets over 7 I'd be surprised, but I've been surprised before. I'd offer something like 3 years at 5.5-6 per. "Expensive" for a RB, but not really when you consider you're probably getting a yearly top 5 rusher, and that the top 3 rounds are prime real estate, the last thing you want to do is draft a RB out of need instead of BPA. This draft is deep on defense, I don't see a RB being BPA in the first 4 rounds.

If he is going to cost over 6.5 a year I'm not signing him though.

With the cap inflation expected, 5.5 per for a runningback is no longer "expensive"-- is one of the points I am making.

So you are basically saying let the FA period do the heavy lifting in regards to the D and allow the draft to serve its purpose?

I like that.

"Impact" defenders out of a draft are rare. We got two good to decent players in Jones and Gregory and neither were ready and finished the season in various states of development.

I just fail to understand how anyone thinks that out of this specific draft that we can an impact defender at 4.

Sure, relative to the cap. It's still about 1.5 more than most contracts outside of the tier 1 range though. With Forte, Foster possibly getting released and Lynch up in the air it's going to further trend RB contracts toward a lower average.

RB's are only worth what the market is willing to pay, regardless of the cap increase. And league sentiment has decreased the importance of the position. Everyone knows there wasn't a 1000 yard rusher in the playoffs this year.

McCoy and Murray's contracts are the latest big ones I think, and with both their issues right now they both look like terrible investments. Most teams are going to look to the draft with all the RB's coming out now, or just paying a Vereen/Williams/Ingram/Matthews/Ivory/etc. 2-4 million. The RB position seems to be bucking the market trend as far as positional costs increases relative to the cap.

5.5 mill would put Miller between Vereens 4.0 and Charles 6.9. With 3 of the top contracts probably coming off the books this year, and 2 last year looking like huge mistakes, I just don't see it, even with the cap increases.

I guess we'll see soon enough. It does only take one Chip Kelly getting involved, so there is that.

I disagree. Murray's deal and lack of production will have an adverse effect on this year's free agents. And CJ Spiller bombing in New Orleans will make teams wary as well.

I also believe that it will work to Dallas' advantage having this offensive line. Running backs know they're set up to do well here.

Well he did say scheme and fit will be his biggest deciding factor. 3 all pro offensive linemen with a potential 4th in Collins would be really attractive to a young RB who wants to become a big name and earn off the field like Beast Mode.

You can take a qb and still compete. Just have to be big players in FA. Most draft picks don't come in and make a big impact their first 1 or 2 years.
